    Converting 308 brass to 7mm-08

Clark, Thanks for the input! :) I ordered my dies yesterday, but the Lee 3 die set won't be in stock at Midway for another week or so. I'll post an update when I get the dies and try 10 pieces or so. KR

    Converting 308 brass to 7mm-08

ArtP, I anneal one at a time using the blowtorch / tempilstick method. It can be a touch tedious doing 1000 pieces at a time, but it isn't bad, and it still beats watching TV. :)

    Converting 308 brass to 7mm-08

I anneal before and after moving the brass that much; it just really takes some of the stress off the brass. Trimming the length isn't an issue; I don't mind that at all. If I had known I'd have to neck ream the .243 I squeezed out of the LC brass, I'd have just coughed up the extra money...

    Converting 308 brass to 7mm-08

I just got a new Savage 114 American Classic in 7mm-08. It's my fourth Savage American Classic, and I'll admit it - I'm addicted. They're beautiful rifles with amazing out-of-the-box accuracy. I'm getting ready to order the dies, and I'm wondering if I can make 7mm-08 brass out of .308 Win...

    AR questions

For all of the advice and links so far, thank you! Zerodefect, The last AR I owned was an HBAR Colt with a 20" snout, so I'm inexperienced with the shorter 16" barrel. I have a couple of bolt action carbines (Remington 600 Mohawks) that have convinced me shorter-barreled rifles can be...

    AR questions

I haven't owned an AR in several years, and just traded into a new Doublestar lower. I haven't entirely decided if I want to build an AR or trade the thing for something more interesting. I have a few questions for those of you with more AR experience than I have: 1. If I build, I'll...

    hand-loading for the Savage 23c in 32-20

Wow. Crickets... I did some digging and may have learned something that some other loader may find useful down the road. The 23 Sporter series were also chambered in .22 Hornet and .25-20, both of which generate 43,000 and 28,000 cup respectively - built on the exact same action. The express...

    hand-loading for the Savage 23c in 32-20

Hi, I recently acquired an old Savage Model 23C in 32-20 caliber. I hand-load for a broad range of rifles and handguns, so I've already ordered the dies and components. The loads listed in Hornady come under the caveat "Use only in modern rifles or handguns in good condition." I think the...

Rossi 92 question - Please advise

Thanks for all of the input! One of my favorite things about THR is all of the good advice. I took Bannockburns' suggestion and emailed Steve Burns. Here's his response which agrees nicely with your advice. Thanks again! KR

Rossi 92 question - Please advise

I hadn't really expected to, but I traded into a Rossi 92 in .45 Colt - it's the 16" carbine version. I like the little carbine, and it seems like a potentially great truck/bumming gun, but I have a question for those of you with more Rossi experience than I have. I load heavy .45 Colt...

    My Krazy Cowboy Carbine idea

If you get this done, I may have to follow suit. I always wanted a Delisle carbine. This would be an acceptable substitute. KR

Warned not to post about guns on Facebook.

Well said. I teach high school in an inner-city school. I shoot and hunt. I've never made a secret of it, but I don't especially "preach" about my hobbies either. I simply answer questions honestly when the students ask. If they ask, "what did you do this weekend?" I respond, "I went...

Why should I buy a .44 Magnum Revolver?

Yup. Others have covered all of the other reasons to buy one, and I agree with all of them. At the end of the day, however, the satisfaction - the joy - of shooting a great big honkin' .44 is just this side of obscene. My .44s are the most fun I can have at the range. I always take at...

    My Home Was Burglarized

So... Firstly - I'm so sorry about your loss. My home was broken into several years ago. You'll never feel entirely secure again, and maybe that's a productive thing. Countermeasures to thwart burglars. Safes (even a crappy safe is better than nothing). Concealment Active/investigative...

New Bill coming into Kentucky's legislature

This is from the Kentucky Legislature's Website HERE Hooray for Kentucky!!! Looking at the other bills Mr. Harmon is sponsoring, I am suddenly becoming a fan. KR

New Bill coming into Kentucky's legislature

As I understand it, yes. It would also maintain optional permits for the purpose of eliminating NICS checks (my favorite thing about holding a CCW). KR

New Bill coming into Kentucky's legislature

Independent representative Mike Harmon (who plans to run for governor in the next election) is introducing legislation that will eliminate all licensing requirements for concealed carry - no permit, no classes, no training. If you can legally own a firearm, you can carry concealed (or open...

Pregnant couple attacked by 5 girls on bus

I love that "all suspects have had their school-issued bus passes revoked and are banned from all metro buses for one year." Damn. That'll teach 'em. KR

Odd experience with gunsmith today... or am I being a crybaby ?

Okay. I won't argue the point. I'm in a distinct minority of opinion on this anyway. I suppose I'm just surprised at the hostility some people have towards gunsmiths in general. I don't consider them sacred cows by any stretch, but a good one is a rare find, and I respect ability and...
