i looked at this old 97 personally and it did not have any serial number where it was found on all I have owned on bottom next to frame and mag tube. Finish appeared to be brown patina with no signs of a refinish. I think I have owned about 10 Model 97's in my life and never seen the missing...
Anyone ever see a Winchester Model 97 without a serial #? A local auction had a listing where the gun was advertised as without a serial # and had excellent pictures. It was old but clearly marked Winchester 97 with the very small forearm. The oldest I had ever owned was a solid frame "C" model...
Thanks for the reply. I didn't think it was rare, it was just I hadn't seen it before. It was just someone clearing out an estate and knew I shot a .45. Thanks for the information. My father in law had not seen the steel cased stuff since Battle of the Bulge .... he used in a Grease Gun. I gave...
Both .... Ammo was gave to me and some I have already gave away some. I was separating out the ammo putting the corrosive in one pile and the rest in another. Just had that one odd round with the silver hardball bullet. Winchester stamp, not corrosive, It may be a lead alloy but not soft lead...
I was gave some .45 ACP Military Head Stamp some of which dated back to WW2. I got some interesting variations that I had not seen before including a Steel cased .45 ACP. I also got a 45 ACP round with a military head stamp from Winchester that is loaded with a silver colored bullet. I do not...
The only pictures I found were on Google LOL! I was beginning to think they were even more scarce than I had been told. I have been to a lot of gun shows in my time and I have never seen a Colt Detective 3" barrel in person!
I was gave a Bianchi holster by a friend for a revolver I have never seen in person; Colt Detective Special 3" barrel. Appears they made them in 2 different versions as the older one did not have a barrel shroud and the newer versions did have a shroud. I was talking to a longtime Colt collector...
I am not ChanceMcCall but I bet I can answer for him and be pretty close to his reasons. The Ruger SP 101 .22 has a very hard to cock action in either single or double action. It can be made better with a spring kit but requires finding one that will still fire your prefered .22 ammo. They are...
Here's my 2 cents ..... I too was having trouble seeing and thought I was needing my glasses changed. I waited till my insurance would cover new glasses which they do ever 2 years. When I did go to the eye Dr. I had glaucoma and had optic nerve damage that cannot be fixed. I am a right handed...
Has anyone else had experiences like this with Winchester 22 LR?
With the Bulk Winchester Wildcats it turned my 1911 Kimber .22 into a single shot. Load with Federal or CCI and it ran flawless. Not all Winchester .22 ammo is the same function wise. I have a 100 pack of Winchester Super x Power...
I got a S&W 4586 several years ago that I had the grand total of $150 bucks in. I traded a Remington 870 Express with a slug barrel even for it and that was what I had in the shotgun. That had to be the best trade I ever got on a handgun. I wish I still had that 4586 but alas it got traded for a...
If my math is correct that Colt is 51 years old. I will venture that most of those on this board (my self included) & any gunsmith you happen to find right now will reach our expiration date before it will go out of time LOL! :D
Fine looking Colt & you did get a great buy!
You might be better off asking this on the S&W Forum because there are a lot more posters there that are up to date on current values of the HD's. That is not to say that some of those same posters are not on THR also. Prices have climbed so much in the last several years I have lost track of...
Why does no one seem to consider a .22 conversion unit for a Glock? Is it that they have issues that I am unaware of .... I have never owned one I am just asking but it would seem that if training with a .22 is the idea that this would be the way to go. I do like a 1911 and have a .22...
There are several National Ranked Shooters using these on the S&W 8 Times because the short case is faster to reload using moon clips. I think I have read they are using a 170 grain bullet in it to make the power factor. The shorter the case the less jiggle factor ..... it's just a speed thing...
