Varget and .223 big variance in max loads

Another thing that might be going on here is how Hornady lists velocity. Their numbers are very much approximate. Did you happen to notice how many different bullets that they have listed to work with each set of data. I seriously doubt that every one of those 55gr bullets will shoot at the...

What part of the powder measure is making contact with the primer tube?

    CCW Belt

I've used one from Comp-Tac now for a couple of years. Has a nice stiff piece of Kydex sewn in between leather straps. Hasn't let me down, and makes the gun feel half its normal weight. I recently purchased another in another color, and will probably continue to buy them if these ever wear...

    Valiant Bullet Hardness

I've shot a fair amount of Valiant bullets, and while I cannot give you a hardness number on them; I will say that they have always been suitable for the application listed on the box. Don't go overboard in either velocity extreme and you should be fine.

Loads for my new .300 win mag

Neither of those are my go to powder for heavy (180gr. and up) bullets. I tried 4350 when I first started with 300 Win Mag, and never could get consistency in my rifle. I tried just about everything on the market and settled on H1000 and RL 22 for heavy bullets. I don't have my data at hand...

Brass vs. copper jackets in handgun calibers

How about cleaning the brass from the barrel? It is any harder than the copper? I've been thinking about one of the 22rf jacket kits, but this has been my big hang up.

How many times reload same brass?

I wondered the same thing years ago, and decided to find out exactly how may loadings it took to wear out a .45 ACP case. I got tired of loading the same case after the sixteenth time and threw in the towel. The case still looked like new. Occasionally, I'll have a split case mouth with my...

    Reloading old shot.

As long as it isn't sticking together, you should be fine. I've loaded forty plus year old shot many times and only had bridging problems with shot bigger than #4.

    remington sportsman 48

My dad shoots one almost exclusively now. He has had a few shoulder problems and the little 16 doesn't punch him quite as hard as his old Browning Light 12. He loved the old Browning action, and found the 48, which works very similarly, for a good price. It shoots all factory ammo perfectly...

Just did a 1911 Extractor Tune...

Aftec extractors drop in. Best part is no tuning. Ever! If they start having problems, you just have to replace the two little springs and it's like new.

    Hornady Die Problems

Check the thread in the die body. I had the same problem with a brand new Hornady .223 die. It turned out to be that the threads for the spindle collet had been double cut at the factory and caused the spindle to sit crooked. Hornady sent a brand new die, and I have had no other problems...

    engine paint curing time?

Most of the ceramic paints and coatings that I have used never fully cure until they are heated to a certain point. The carrier solvent evaporates and the coating dries at room temperature, but there is a binder that doesn't activate until they are heated to around at least 300 degrees or so...

    Best .22 cal rifle

If you don't mind a bolt action, a Savage Mark II is a great shooter for very little money. You should be able to get the rifle, a nice scope and a brick of shells for your $400. I have never seen one that wouldn't shoot circles around most of the auto rifles on the market.

Mossberg 500 - Problem or not.....

When I purchased my first Mossberg 500 it had a problem similar to yours, but much more severe. The extractor was ripping through the rim of the shell. The chamber was very tight and rough. I just used a little automotive sandpaper with some light machine oil to remove the machine marks and...

    Remington premier sts

Dixie, I think the solution would be to list the velocity of each load on the box. Not how much powder is used.

    Reciever/Rib Misalignment

If it doesn't affect shooting I wouldn't worry about it. You are lucky. I have a Mossberg 500 barrel that hits eighteen inches left at thirty yards! It makes for an interesting day on the dove field!

Nickel-plated shot through full and extral-full chokes?

No problems at all. I used to shoot nickle plated turkey loads through some very tight chokes. There are no problems at all. The pellets are still vastly softer than your choke tubes.

Need advice on .300 win mag

When looking for my last rifle I walked out of several gun shops becuase of comments and questions like the ones above. Everyone had reasons why I didn't need the rifle I was asking about without knowing anything about me or the application of my rifle. I finally bought mine at the shop that...

ACTIVE brand 20 Gauge Red Hornet shotshell question????

As far as I know the cartridge collectors never really picked up the Activ shells. I really don't know why. All of the elements are there to make these shells collectible. The company had a unique product, had a dedicated user base and is now basically defunct. Kent Cartridge company bought...
