Thanks for the replies! I have a 7yr old boy that is very "curious". I do try to instruct both my kids about guns, but my son is more likely to try to sneak a peek.
When my boy asks to see my .22 rifle, I let him. But he has not yet made the connection between toy and potentially dangerous...
Looking for opinions/advice. I want a home self defense pistol/revolver that is "loaded" and ready to go in a moments notice....BUT....I have small kids in the house.
If one of the kiddies found the gun I would want it to be impossible for them to shoot it.

I thought I was going to go the S&W route when I started reading negative ink about S&W quality (on the decline etc.)
What are your thoughts on the current quality of the Smith revolvers? Is Ruger any better in this department?

Okay....Okay. I do not want to roll the dice.
I did just get back from the local Gander Mtn. They had a S&W 640 as well as a sp101. I held them both and really fell hard for the Smith. Guess I'll save up for it!
