Revolvers Suck or My Bad Luck

The max B/C gap on my K6 is .006 which is fine. However, the cylinder can move far enough forward for its face to drag on the back of the barrel. When opening the cylinder, the release latch pushes the cylinder forward against the rear of the barrel and makes it difficult to open. Having this...

Revolvers Suck or My Bad Luck

No cylinder slap or abuse. I clean them regularly and treat them well. Also, I don't "home gunsmith" them either. All of the issues mentioned in my OP have occurred within 4 months or so of purchasing each one brand new.

Revolvers Suck or My Bad Luck

First let me state that I have traditionally always been a revolver guy. I learned to shoot on a wheel gun and carry one almost exclusively to protect myself and my family. I have believed what I have always been taught, "revolvers are simpler and more reliable than semi autos". A couple...

38 Special vs 357 Magnum - Snub Nose

Not cherry picking loads. I just happened to have those two on hand and I found it interesting that at least in gel, their ballistic performance was essentially the same.

38 Special vs 357 Magnum - Snub Nose

I recently acquired a Kimber K6s snub nose (2 inch) revolver chambered in 357 Magnum. I had the opportunity this weekend to fire a couple of different defensive loads from it into a block of fabric covered (4 layers cotton t-shirt) ballistic gel. I was trying to determine if firing 357 Magnum...

38 Snub Nose - Target Full Wadcutter vs JHP

I've long believed that from a snub nose 38 special the basic target grade Full Wadcutter can be an effective round for civilian self defense. I decided today to do a bit of a comparison between Winchester SuperX 148 grain Full wadcutter and Winchester Ranger Bonded 130 grain +P. Both rounds...

    Revolver Sickness

I own two firearms for ccw, a Glock 26 and a J frame (642). By all objective standards the Glock has it all over the Smith. It has twice the capacity (or more). In slow and rapid fire drills I always shoot the 26 better. The Glock has proven itself every bit as reliable as the 642. With...

Point of impact was very close to the sights on my revolver.

Federal HST 38 +P Snub Nose Test

I grabbed a box of Federal's new HST 130 grain 38 Special +P "micro" loading specifically designed for short barrels. This round is fully seated within the cartridge case and looks very much like an inverted hollow base wadcutter. I had the opportunity to fire three round from my S&W 642 snub...

Snub Nose - DAO or DA/SA

For those that carry a snub nose revolver, do you prefer DAO or DA/SA and why?

    Underpenetrator vs Overpenetraror

Question, Given the FBI/IWBA recommendation for self defense rounds being 12 to 18 inches penetration of 10% ballistic gel, which of the two following rounds would you choose to carry (assuming reliability, shootability, ect are the same)? "The Undrepenetrator" -large expansion with consistent...

    Light Weight Snub Crimp Jump

One More Test I did one more test last night with my LCR and the Remington FBI load and got basically the same result (0.015 inch "jump"). It did not appear that the bullet was pulling past the crimp groove nor did the crimp on the case appear to "open" for lack of a better term. Also, the...

    Light Weight Snub Crimp Jump

I've been experimenting with different defensive loads for my newly aquired LCR 38 and tonight started testing Remington 38+p LSWCHP (FBI load). Online I've read a number of warnings regarding crimp jump in very light revolvers with heavy recoiling loads. My test protocol was as follows...
