Does your AR15 run on steel cased ammo?

My old chrome lined 5.56 piece-meal AR15 absolutely would not function with steel-case ammo but would run flawlessly on brass-case ammo. My Double Star "Star-15" carbine (non-chrome lined barrel) runs very well on steel case ammo. However, this was not always the case- when I bought the...

    Mini 14 won't cycle...

Clean the chamber and try greasing the rifle a la M-14 style (regular tube grease or wheel bearing grease works just fine). If this doesn't fix your problem send the rifle back to Ruger- they'll take care of you. Also, make sure you are using a Ruger factory mag when you try the rifle, that...

    Hi-Point Carbine Reviews

I would echo others' opinions about the HP 995- namely that it is an accurate & reliable rifle. I have had one for several years and shoot it regularly with steel-cased ammo. No problems whatsoever despite markedly less cleaning than my other rifles. The only potential downside to the HP...

    ammunitiontogo.com experiences?

Ditto here- very good, very quick service from ATG. I would not hesitate to order from this organization.

    mini14 tough or not?

In my limited experience the Mini 14 is a rugged, reliable rifle. I have a 580 series stainless ranch rifle that I bought used (unknown round count). From the get-go, it has been nothing but utterly reliable with any type of ammunition I have thrown at it (Tula FMJ, Silver Bear JHP, Wolf FMJ...

    Low Cost HD rifle

I know you said .223 or 7.62x39, but I would whole-heartedly second a Hi-Point carbine as it meets all of your selection criterion. I have a High-Point 995 carbine and while it is not easy on the eyes, it has the following pros: 1) it is compact; 2) it is affordable (new or used); 3) it shoots...

    I want it back

Long Branch Enfield No. 4 Mk. 1- smooth, accurate and in great shape; it seemed like I could hit most anything with this rifle Norinco M14 type 'paratrooper' rifle- it was a little crude but for the price I couldn't pass it up Oh well.

    Mini-14 ammo

Some people have had firing pin issues with steel case ammo in Mini 14 rifles; I have run +-500 rounds of Tula/Wolf through my Mini 14 with no issues whatsoever. IMO, one of the key strengths of the Mini 14 is its ability to handle any kind of ammo without issue. I would suggest buying...

What is your most prized gun?

For me it would probably be my Mini 14 ranch rifle. Nothing fancy, but it feeds/fires/ejects everything I've thrown at it and it's fairly accurate. Quite simply, it works for me.

Do you still have your first firearm?

Unfortunately no- the Enfield #4 Mk 1 went down the road when I had a greater need for money than the rifle. No regrets, but too bad as it was a very accurate rifle (by my standards).

    5.56/.223 purchase

You may want to also consider an older Daewoo DR200 rifle- they are a hybrid AR/AK that is piston-driven. Pros: piston-driven with adjustable gas valve, takes AR mags, very similar to an AR to dissemble, often can be found used in stock configuration for <$700 Cons: limited after-market...

    completely lost interest

Yep, been through the same thing in the past. Didn't completely lose interest, just enough to drastically scale back in the mid-nineties. Eventually I've come full circle again (though looking to scale back, but not because of lack of interest this time). Just like anything else, too much...

    Golden Tiger 7.62 ?

I am fond of GT- I used it in the past in several AK type rifles (both chrome-lined and non-chrome lined) and Chinese SKS rifles. It always fed, fired and ejected without problem.

    HK 91/G3 disassembly

YouTube used to have several videos on HK91/G3 takedown that helped me out the first time I tried to put a G3 clone back together. I am a visual learner so watching the video content greatly helped me when in need.

    AR and AK questions!

A lot of good things have already been stated. Ultimately, you need to pick what will work best for you. Before you jump on one bandwagon or the other based on internet advice, you should probably handle both weapons to get a good idea of what fits you best/feels right. I would even go so...

    Firearms museums...

If you are ever in the Chicago suburbs of IL, the First Infantry Division (Big Red One) museum located in Wheaton is a pretty good place to visit. It costs $5/car for parking- no entrance fee for individuals (only donations accepted inside). The museum has pictures/dioramas of WW1, WW2...

What is your "Lemon Gun/Guns" ?

Several lemon guns come to mind: Lakefield (?) 64B semi-auto .22- bought new, couldn't get through twenty rounds before the thing began mis-feeding, stove-piping, etc. Fouled terribly with any type of ammo. Was more than happy to get rid of it. Century "Centurion" 15 AR-15 clone from...
