    Running?

Most times I've ran across "run" in association with a gun it's been in the context of "Yeah, this 1911 runs great." or something similar. I take that to mean that things are working well and nothing bad is happening. To me it's just like saying "yeah, my car might be rusty but the engine...

    Paypal-like service for gunbroker?

It's threading on thin ice, but I've had good luck paying people with PayPal with a "gift" transaction and being vague about what it's for. The seller gets the full amount and I didn't pay any extra as long as it's from my checking account.

How do you catalog your loads?

I just made a spreadsheet on Google docs and keep it there. I'm not doing any complicated formulas or anything, just tracking data. My scheme: Everything goes in the spreadsheet -- down to the lot number of the powder and the primers. From every row I should be able to replicate the load...

    FFL dealer issue

Dunno. I had a rifle shipped to my local FFL and it showed up Friday around 1PM. I showed up around 4:30 to pick it up. They apologized for being so busy -- another person on staff was saying their voicemail was full and they couldn't do anything about it. So, like I said, I walked in at...

No more ARs left for christmas

I'm not typically one to fan the fires of "oh-my-god-the-sky-is-falling" but I finally pulled the trigger on the last of the Colt AR-15s at Bud's Gun Shop. Up until now I was a pistol kinda guy. The only rifle I have in the safe now is an M1 Carbine replica. Then tonight I see Seattle...

Need some help with this bullet please...

The problem is if you're trying to use the same amount of powder and you seat to a far longer OAL, you'll push the bullet slower as your experiment showed. Keep in mind we are talking about the same bullet weight and design in both cases seated to the same volume under the projectile with the...

Need some help with this bullet please...

Along those same lines if you seat the bullet deeper (0.125" deeper) to have the same volume you should get the same performance. Of course the bullet might not be really suitable to do that with (crimping and all), but it's workable in some instances.

    9mm Crimp Question/ Help.....

Either that or you swaged the bullets down by crimping too much. The crimp doesn't hold in the bullet in most cases. Over crimping squeezes the bullet down, then the brass springs back more than the bullet. I remember when I first started reloading that I crimped the bejesus out of a few...

Redding 45acp Die Set - Part Missing?

Actually, you might even have a separate seating and crimping dies w/o an expander... What does the printing on the side of the dies read? On my set (not .45 GAP, but a .45 ACP Comp), I don't have an expander, but the sizer is marked "45 ACP&AR TIC 1M", the seater "45 ACP&AR COMP ST J"...

Redding 45acp Die Set - Part Missing?

I don't have that exact set... but... For the expander I'd run the die body all the way down to the shell plate, then adjust the expander to get the right amount (minimal) of belling on the case so I could seat the bullets without issue. The die body for the expander doesn't really do...

Problem with Wolf barrel for 9mm Glock 19

That being said, the MO Bullet 125gn round bullet has a fatter ogive than normal for a typical 9mm so it might be a bit tight for your barrel. The Hodgdon site lists a starting load for 125gn w/Universal for 3.8gn. Even with what you have now, seating to 1.055 instead of 1.125 with the...

    2400 and 40 S&W

That's my thinking too. But then you wind up with the bullet taking up all of the case and no room left for the powder... My way of looking at 2400 is that it's designed for heavy-for-the-caliber bullets in big cases. This makes sense if you look at what published loads are for the most part.

    2400 and 40 S&W

My guess is the additional area presented by the bullet base to the combustion pressure causes the bullet to move faster than the pressure builds. Smokeless powder burns faster as the pressure increases, so if the bullet is accelerated faster than the powder was designed for you never build...

Problem with Wolf barrel for 9mm Glock 19

Two things come to mind: 1) Your new barrel might have less leade than the stock barrel. This is the space between the case mouth and the start of the rifling. If that's the case, you'll need to seat the bullet a bit further in. 2) The new barrel might have a tighter chamber. The lead...

    2400 and 40 S&W

Yep, way too slow. Alliant doesn't have any published loads for .40 so I would start with that bit of info... I did run .40 + 2400 through QuickLoad though. It doesn't look too good (as expected). Out of a 5" barrel it models that you only wind up burning around 1/2 of the powder before...

jack ross and freedom munition reloads

My reloads come in at around $120/1000 with jacketed bullets. :-) Not for sale though... Range brass + Montana Gold bullets ($0.085) + Winchester primers ($0.025) + a teeny bit of powder ($0.01). I have fun making them, so I don't count my time.

    Power Pistol 500 Mag (Mildload)

I looked up the recipe on the Alliant site and sure enough it shows 27gr. pushes it to 1564. Things to keep in mind: Alliant publishes max loads on the site. They admonish to reduce them by 10% to get a starting load (with a few stated exceptions). Another thing to consider is they were...

    Everyones Thoughts On Tula Primers

I got a brick of 5000 small pistol a year or so ago. They were all far harder to seat than the CCI I had used before or the Winchester I'm using now. Of the 5000 a few (10-15?) failed to go bang even after repeated strikes from a firing pin. Given those attributes I've switched off them. It...
