I just bought the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle in 308 with the composite stock from Sportsman’s Warehouse and just love it. Been to the range and it’s more accurate than I am with the iron sights.
I like the 2 ten round mags that came with the rifle and I plan to get more.
I’m thinking of...
Obama will probably do what George HW Bush did when he banned foreign imports of semiautomatic rifles. Not exactly an Executive Order, but the same effect. And Obama will say, "what's the big deal? Bush did it.".
For a 1911, I would remove and clean the extractor and firing pin and clean the channels as part of a field strip/cleaning. I always check the extractor for tension and wear or damage. My 1911's are my defensive handguns. I don't want to find out that the extractor turned into limp noodle...
I got my wife a use Glock 19 (2nd gen) with night sites and it's perfect for her.
She also has a Ruger SP101 .357 mag with 2.25 barrel and spurless hammer, if anyone needs a suggestion for a revolver for a woman. The nice thing about these choices is that I like shooting them too.

Well, I guess there is such a model. Good luck finding one. I've seen the stainless unfinished versions, but never a black coated stainless framed one.
What makes you think the frame is steel and not AL alloy? I'm not an expert but I never heard of what you describe.
It looks like a German stamped steel "slide" to me with the regular alloy frame. If that is the case it is not that rare, altough they are often preferred to the cast...
I don't know about their "crappy" or "expensive" lines, but for $70 delivered off ebay you can't complain about the Recon Tanto. I especially think that the 2010 Recon 1 folder's are a great deal for $60 delivered or ebay. The Cold Steel stuff I've bought recently is sharp, tough as a tank...
Zoogster, thank you for that well reasoned explanation.
As carrying a defensive knife for me is a back up to my CCW firearm or something to have if someone pulls a gun in close quarters in a "gun free zone" where I am otherwise unarmed, my knife usage would be in only the most extreme life...
