What, are iron sights diseased or something?

Bingo! What the OP wants is not a hunting rifle, but an old 19th or early 20th century combat rifle. None of these have been produced since the late 1940's at best. Get something that is chambered in a still-popular and ubiquitous cartridge. Getting a rifle does you little good if it is...

Who sells Mosin Nagant firing pin ?

Crooked? As in bent? Hammer it straight again. Mosins are easy to repair, designed simply to allow peasant Soviet soldiers to fix them in the field!

1903 Springfield with a low serial number, 460,***

Slam Fire, thank you very much for your extremely informational posts. I have enjoyed reading them and have gained valuable knowledge about the flaws regarding the M1903 rifle. I myself own a Springfield M1903, one made in 1927. It of course is a "high" serial number one, and I have shot...

Just for the record, that movie is awesome.

High School History Book Rewrites the 2nd Amendment

I disagree that it is anything of the sort. Revisionist progressive historians love to espouse such a viewpoint, but it is incorrect. The constitution of our nation is not to be trifled with for light and transient causes. This is why it was made so darn hard to modify it in the first place...

    Arrested for reporting a MWAG....

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I'll bear however I damn well please (which in my state means on my own property only). Don't infringe upon my God given rights.

Odd bolt action rifle on "The Bridge."

It's pedantic that you are using the word pedantic so damn much! How about that eh! You need to chill out dude. You are really high strung. Much ado about nothing. There are more important things in life to get your blood pressure up. Reliving the age-old clip-vs-magazine terminology debate...

Would an AR be your only rifle? (what rifle type would an only rifle be?)

Only one? For everything? My M1917 or one of my Mosin-Nagants. Bolt action battle rifle. Can be used for damn near everything, except for varmint hunting.

    New Production M1?

Expense of manufacture in relation to the price point the market will support. They are a 1930's design, with expensive time consuming machining required to manufacture. That would heavily affect the price. Expect one to cost as much as what the Springfield M1A goes for. The market for them is...

First Battle Use of .30 US Carbine?

That reminds me of another officer who denigrated the methodology of SLA Mashall's fact-finding a whole lot as well. A fellow by the name of Colonel Hackworth, who wrote a book by the name of About Face.

How long until someone adapts a slide fire stock to a ....

A proper machinegun on a tripod with traverse and elevation functions would disagree with you. Dialed in, it can hit the same area, denying its use to the enemy. As for rifles, full auto is generally best for suppressive fire. US Army experiences in Vietnam with the M16A1 would corroborate that.

    Cheap steel target for rifles!

I'd recommend mild steel versus tool steel. Rather have a round go straight through than bounce off and ricochet somewhere unknown. You can always weld on a fresh plate of mild steel afterwards, or just weld the holes shut.

    M1 Garand or M1 for a grand?

Will the CMP ship out one of their higher end Garands with an original military stock? I would love to get one, but don't want a brand new stock. I prefer combat rifles that look like they have been in combat.

Can anyone tell me what I have here - old bolt action ID?

Eddystone M1917 Enfield. 30-06. Very strong action, and one of the fastest as well. Magazine holds 6 rounds of 30-06, as it was designed for 5 rounds of .303 Brit.

    Is gunsmithing a dying trade?

Like stated, gunsmithing is just a subsect of machining. Machine shops in general are dying out. It is hard nowadays finding a competent enough shop to mill a set of cylinder heads. They are all closing down. I blame it on the death of industry in America in the last 50 years or so. We are no...

    Mosin Nagant #44

The Soviets didn't use the antiquated measurement system of old Imperial Russia. Measuring distance in archins was part of that. They switched entirely to the metric system. Certainly by 1944 when the OP's M44 was introduced they were stamping their rear sights in meters.

Holder Threatens Kansas Over New Gun Laws

Things are different now, my johnny rebel friend. Muster your self reliance, along with your kin. Us Yankees sure aren't gonna be the ones to rock the boat, by the looks of things. In other news, there is a reason why I plan to move west, Liberty being the prevailing one. You only need to see...

Why do people buy new guns?

Because finding what you want used is harder. Used firearms usually hold quite a bit of value, regardless of age. They are nothing like a car, for example.
