    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

Whiskey11, If you get a casefeeder, and it runs like mine, you will be very happy with it. Mine works great, but you have to watch it because the casefeeder plate will jam occasionally. I have not had even one case drop wrong side up, and it does increase your load rate. I like mine. Good luck!

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I like the manual indexing. It works, and it does not slow you down. The 550 is so much easier to set-up, and it is easier to seat primers. I loaded over 100 .45 ACP, shortly after I configured the press. That said, I spoke to a Hornady Tech Rep. today and we went over the most common causes...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I fixed my reloading problem today. I mounted a brand new Dillon RL550b on my bench. It did not take near the time the Hornady did to set up. After I adjusted my dies where I needed them, I filled the powder measure with W231, and adjusted my powder load where I wanted it. It threw 20...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I thought I had the primer problem solved, but I was wrong. The primer shuttle hole (that the primer rides in) is not centered on the shuttle. I was loading some 38 spl today, and it started getting hard to seat the primers after just a few (9-10) cases. The primers seating got to be "jerky"...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

It was a timing issue. It took several attempts, but I finally got it to seat large, and small, pistol primers to flush (no more). I had to readjust the pawls when I switched to small pistol primers. Funny thing is: The primer punch does not look centered in the primer shuttle, at all, when...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I received the new subplate from Hornady yesterday. If I were the people at Hornady, I'd fire my quality control department :cuss:. The subplate that I removed from the press, while kind of rough, looked much, much better than the new one they sent. The new subplate was machined different on...

    Hornady LNL AP EZject Problem

I had this problem with 45 ACP. I tried everything mentioned (except polishing the shellplate), and I finally found a bur on the EZ Ject bump on the subplate. I used a small file to remove the bur, and then a fine stone to smooth it all out. I, in no way, removed any metal that was supposed...

What is your favorite powder for reloading .45acp?

Favorite Powder(s) for .45 ACP It depends on application. For accuracy: Bullseye, followed by Unique and Win 231. For all-around shooting, plinking, action shooting: Win 231 and Power Pistol. Of course, HP38 can be used anywhere you use Win 231. I have been meaning to try Universal Clays...

    Hornady LnL Problems

Sorry to hear that Mine seats Winchester large rifle primers, and has no problem with them. I only had 10 Winchester large pistol primers, but I went through those setting up the machine. I am having trouble seating CCI large pistol, and CCI small pistol. Hornady is working with me on this...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

thump_rrr, This was the first thing I did. I am thinking that Knucklehead2 may be onto something. I am going to play with the timing, just a little, to see what that does. The dime might be causing the plunger to move at a very small angle off 90 degrees, causing the primer to not start...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

Thanks Knuck! The plunger does, indeed, come up into the primer pocket and keeps the shell from being removed. I will experiment with the timing (very, very little increments) and see if that helps. I tried to prime some .308 cases today with Winchester LR primers. They seated just right...

    Coax Press Experience

I have a Forster Co-Ax, and it is a great press. They are expensive compared to other single-stage presses, but I am glad I bought one. This is the press the Army Marksmanship Team uses. I do not use this press to prime cases, however.

Spoogie It would not matter how thick the washer is, because it would only add to the problem. I need to remove material so the plunger can be pushed further.

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I hope they do come up with a solution to the primer seating problem. I like your idea of somehow making the assy adjustable. I was thinking along those lines just earlier today. Maybe use some kind of washer system? The nut and plunger would have to be lengthend for that to work. Of course...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I took it apart and it looks like the best solution would be to bore the hole, from the bottom, another 2-3 thousands, as well as remove material from the bottom of the nut. Hornady is sending another. The tech first stated that they are all the same, and later stated that I may have received...

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

I looked at the plunger assy again, and the bottom of the plunger goes into the nut to just flush. It looks like the spring is fully compressed. I wonder if I could shorten the spring by 1 to 1 1/2 coils, and grind the nut down?

Thank You, k4swb! I will look at it. It does make sense. Either shorter nut, or longer plunger. Thanks again! Jim

    Hornady Lock-n-load AP

Hello folks! I recently purchased a new L-n-L progressive from Hornady. The machine is built like a tank, and looks like it will provide service long after I'm gone. Set-up was not too painful; I did a bone-head move and bent the cartridge catch bin bracket. Hornady sent me a new one...
