    What's a good 1911 in the $700-$800 range?

Sig 1911 TTT should be about $850.-, nice gun and my second choice. I held out and finally found a S&W Stainless (non-rail) for $925.-, glad i did, i love this gun. The Sig at that price is a great deal IMO.

    1911 mags...

My brother passed away last Dec. and when going thru his things i found my dad's WWII 1911 mags and pouch, loaded them up and slipped them into my S&W Stainless. They worked perfectly all day long. Go figure!!

Thinking of low cost .243---Ruger American or Wetherby Vanguard

Between these two i'd choose the Weatherby.

    Rather unsatisfying range trip

What he said. ^ I believe the old adage is "curing" the barrel.

    270 Rifle Poll

While the Weatherby is the more expensive of these i find the the fit and finish the best. The Gun Nut show guys on the Outdoor Channel shot a 1 inch group out of the box. Was going to purchase one in .223 but may buy a .243, if the ammo craze doesn't settle down, for plinking.

    AR-15 Build

Nice job, it is a bit addictive, like you it was only a week and i am planning a new 24inch upper for plinking.

    1972 S&W - Too Nice To Shoot?

Having a gun you don't shoot, is like having a wife who sleeps in a different bedroom!! LOL

Why is .243 ammo so high?

The rifle i was looking at, the Savage 10XP Predator does come in .223 cal., so that will have to be my choice, allows me to buy almost twice as many rounds. Thanks guys.

Why is .243 ammo so high?

Have started looking for a quality bolt action in .243 and was surprised to see that the ammo is almost as high as my 30-06 ammo. 22-250 cal. ammo wasn't much better, i was planning on being able to shoot a lot, in the plinking and varmint mode. Any ideas or input (how do you shoot cheap) are...

Scope for my 30-06 Deer Rifle

The Simmons 44mag. 4x12 44 won Field and Streams field test last year and i really like mine, Natchez has them on sale.

First hunt and a jammed 30-30

The 7mm-08 is a good choice, less recoil than the 30 cal., unless your a real good shot the .223 is not a great deer round. I've had a Marlin 336 for 30 yrs. and have never heard of the Marlin Jam, is this a result of Remington putting out more junk, or is this an older rifle. Is this a failure...

Won rifle i don't want- sell as-is or w/ scope?

The I-bolt had a recall in 2007 (i think) for a problem with the bolt, they only recalled about 600 rifles. The barrel a is Thompson/Center and not for sure about the receiver, the two i handled in 2010 at LGS seemed very well made for the price, just under $400.-. I wonder if you know how...

Which Bolt Action in .308 WIN?

In your price range check out the FN 308 tactical. They make a short heavy barrel and a 24" barrel.

Marlin Levers still suffering from QC issues?

Yes there are problems at Remington, just read a post about the Q.A. problems on the new 770's and some of the new 700's. To bad they have made such a mess of the Marlin's, i love my 1968 Texan in 30-30.

    Remington 700/770

I would totally agree with texag and kachok, i would also say to look at a used Model 70, made between 1966 and 1975, not as good as a pre64 but a better rifle than the new Remys. IMO

    Glock 17 or Beretta 92FS

Own both and each has it's good points, for me the 92FS is more accurate, will soon be doing a $90.- trigger job on the glock and it will be interesting to see how it shoots. I do, at this time, prefer the Beretta.

    Enid Oklahoma shooting range

Got these from an old buddy at Prague, Grand National Gun Club-580-233-5682 and the North Oklahoma Shooting Center-580-234-2200, hope this helps. Thats pretty open country and after you get to know someone local you should find a place for free.
