Talk me out of a Ruger No. 3 in 45-70

Why not? Ihave a Marlin in 45-70 that is bad medicine for elk in dark timber. I told my dad you can load 45-70 for Ruger#1's so what does he do but run out and duy one. Then he says load me some of those higher loads for it. I only loaded five cause I knew how much mine kicks and the Ruger was...

    Springfield trapdoor questions?

Went with my father to pickup and old trapdoor that has been in the family for at least 60 years and have some questions. It is a full size rifle with 1870 stamped on the top and serial # of 15,206. On the lock side it was stamped 1863, does this mean it was a civil war Springfield coverted to a...

    backstrap ideas

bacon grease I fry 2 strips of bacon long enough to grease the pan, then add the steaks for two minutes per side on medium heat. They come out with a little pink in the middle and all their juice intact. Cut about 3/4' thick. Twogun1975

    Cowboy Loads ?

Am thinking of either converting one of my cap and ball revolvers to a cartridge pistol, getting a Richards-Mason conversion or both, will the Schofield round work in the 45 Colt chamber. If so wouldn't that be a better option for loading smokeless powder rounds for lighter loads in these makes...

    properties of fillers?

What properties are we to look for in a filler? Ive seen cornmeal and grits mentioned as fillers, also wads. A friend does pyro shows and has started doing huge fireballs by mixing common milk replacer from the farm with black powder. It produces a huge fireball and very hot. Combination of the...

    1860 Richards Mason Conversions

Ship to FFL So than they must be shipped to a FFL dealer right? But you can have your cap and ball converted with no strings attached. Our laws in WI are fairly mild compared to other states, we have a deep history with hunting and firearm hobbies.Twogun1975

    1860 Richards Mason Conversions

Does anyone have any experience with these guns? Found them at Buffalo Arms site. Said they are a Uberti conversion for 45 colt. Price is under $500 as compared to at least $500 to convert an existing percussion pistol by the time you buy the gated cylinder, shell ejector and get the frame...

    First Time Shooting 58 & 60

Wedge issues While most here post of issues removing their wedge, my 1860 comes right out. The first two times I used a little piece of oak to tap on. Now I can tap it loose with the plastic handle of a screw driver. I still think the Remington is a little easier, though not that much. Twogun1975

1851 Brass Cabelas bargain cave has 1851 navy brass 44s for 149.99. I'd spend the extra 50 on either the Remington or Colt steel frame revolvers. Twogun1975

    New 1860 !

Got the new 1860 44 from Cabelas today and all I can say is wow! My other gun is a 24 year old brass frame ASM 1858 that I got at a garage sail. Compared to the Remington the Colt is a thing of beauty. The balance and feal of it in my hand is hard to describe. I liken the Remington to a Stanley...

    Conicals for Blackpowder revolvers?

Taurus conical When I bought my 1858 Remington it came with a partial box of 44 cal. conicals from Taurus. The body is about 1/4 inch long and has a hollow base. The nose looks like it was cut off a round ball with a little sealing ring around it at the base of the nose. Should have the new...
