    Recommend me a XDm trigger

I don't have personal experience with either, but I have an XDm and have been looking for a trigger job as well. I've heard good things about Springer Precision and the Springfield custom shop.

can i find a full size pistol for $300

I'd buy a used well-respected brand (Ruger, S&W, Glock, etc) over a new off-brand, even with a good warranty. The only exception to that would be the Kel-Tec P11. It's somewhat small, and early models required some break-in or 'fluff and buff', but you can buy a new one, plus a few boxes of...

    concealable stopping power?

I was a born and bred 1911 fan, until some serious classes taught me that the grip and thumb safeties don't always disengage when you're trying to draw and fire while being tackled or wrestling. Also, my traditional hip carry was hard to pull from while flat on my back, and hard to keep away...

    Holster recommendation

Try your friends' pistols from their holsters. The 'feel' of a holster shouldn't change too drastically from model to model. I would definitely advise getting away from the the retention holsters; too many 'oopses' from them in the heat of the moment. As unsolicited advice from someone who...

Reloading for .308 'blasting' ammo - worth it?

Thanks for the replies. I did forget about the case length, but I would like to think I would have remembered it before crimping... I currently have two .308s. The bolt action rifle gets factory match or whatever high-end handloads I work up. It's going to be expensive, but I'm not going to...

Reloading for .308 'blasting' ammo - worth it?

I reload .45 ACP 'blasting' and competition ammo for my pistol, and am considering doing the same for my .308/7.62 rifles, primarily to save money. Is this a worthwhile endeavor? With the .45, I can cut ammo costs by a third to a half, depending on current costs, and can 'make major' without...

Should I tell the Fire Department where my guns and reloading equipment is located?

Thanks for the well-reasoned replies. For what it's worth, I'm in a pretty conservative part of Texas. Most of the firefighters are probably gun owners as well. Heck, they may even be motivated by the knowledge that they're helping to save someone's firearms... ;)

Should I tell the Fire Department where my guns and reloading equipment is located?

The title says it all, really. New house, new safe, new reloading setup. Should I tell the local FD where my firearms and reloading components are? Plus side - If they ever have to put out a fire, they'll know to throw some foam in that area. They'll also know which side of the house to...

Planning a video to respond to the Brady's latest ad. Looking for some help.

Crossrhodes - Awesome imagery. That would get many of the on-the-fence females into the shooting range.

Gun or guns you regret selling.

I've regretted every sale just a bit, so I don't sell them unless it's a dire situation. I do miss my long/heavy barrel Ruger 22 target pistol, but it was stolen. (I can see the thief using it... "It won't hurt much if I shoot you, but it will if I hit you with it!")

    Where is your gun safe?

Most houses have the tools necessary to break into a gun safe, given enough time. The key is having that time, and using it to break into a safe.

    Reloading in a Garage

Not in and of itself. However, you do have both static electricity and dust, which can present their own issues. Computer components hate it dry, but mechanical and chemical ones should be fine.

    Where is your gun safe?

The garage walls are uninsulated, but two face the house, and one faces south (no sun in summer), and is brick. I know it's just a brick veneer, but between the brick, the housewrap, the air space, and the sheetrock, that should be enough to keep 80 degree dry air in the garage. I hope. :D...

    Where is your gun safe?

If your wife found them, then she's probably figured out what's in the safe, too... :neener: In all seriousness, I'm looking at air conditioning the garage, now. Gotta crawl up above it and see if I can insulate it. I'd be a fool if I bought an energy efficient house, and air conditioned an...

    Reloading in a Garage

My previous reloading bench was in an air-conditioned garage. I'm not sure if I'm going to climate-control my current garage or not (it really depends on the insulation), but does anyone know if an Austin TX area garage is too humid and has too much temperature variation for reloading?

    Where is your gun safe?

Simple question, really. Where is your gun safe located? The actual location isn't important, but I'm curious if it's in a climate controlled area, or in a garage or shop. Does anyone know if an Austin area garage will be too humid or have too wide a range of temperatures for a gun safe...

    What would you do?

I suspect this will get kicked to the "Strategy & Tactics" forum, but if I truly feel my life is in danger, then I will shoot. A very similar case came up in Texas, right after the CHL law was passed (1996?). A CHL holder was a victim of a road rage incident, where a larger and stronger man...

What would get you to shoot?

You point out the judge as a factor. Let me throw in another monkey-wrench. I live in Williamson County, which is one of the safest highly-populated counties in Texas. It's also one of the least lenient on criminal behavior (I intentionally avoided the phrase 'illegal behavior')...

    5 family members massacred

Someone entering your home with violent intent is ... someone entering your home with violent intent, regardless of label. No need to discuss anything else. :) I'd say that Factor D above is the root of the problem. Failure to understand and prepare for their adversary led to everything...

Being prepared in high risk zones

BOBs are not solely the scope of the Zombiepocalypse and other fantasies. (Says the man who has family in and around New Orleans.)
