Who Says the 16 is Dead?

Most of my 16ga ammo is bought from the Walmart down the road. After Walmart I can get ammo from Dick's and 2 or 3 other places local to me. I have only had to special order #5's from Midway. I know a few people that hunt with 16's. An older Ithaca 37 is our preferred shotgun for hunting.

Grabbed a 16 Gauge on impulse

I use Fiocchi Golden Pheasant #5's as does my hunting partner. The only downside that I have found about hunting with my 16's (yes I have more than 1) is that I have to order #5's online. I can find plenty of other shot sizes locally, but no store stocks nbr 5's (at least not yet). We do buy...

    Ithaca 37

One reason for the small number of Ithaca 37s being sold is sheer economics. People in this country don't appreciate a $900.00 pump that doesn't perform any differently than the $300.00 pos 870 Express. They both go bang when you pull the trigger, the rabbit/pheasant/squirrel fall down or the...

What range to practice Bear defense with slugs?

Spend some quality time with Google. There are other platforms and loadings that can just as easy to carry, are fast to use and carry enough punch. As the previous posting(s) have mentioned, a rifle might be the better option. A .450 Marlin, a heavy loaded 45-70, etc in a fast handling lever...

    NEW Ithaca Trenchgun

They look like they are being built by Ithaca. You can tell by looking at the magazine tube and the shape of the receiver at the bottom, right in front of the loading/ejection port. All currently made Ithacas (from here in Ohio) use that roll crimped tube. We will have to see if it is from...

    Favorite shotgun?

Ithaca Model 37's. Particularly 16ga guns. As far as "ejection" or "feed" issues, most of them time it is a simple adjustment that is needed or some dirt cleaned out. There was a time when the company was raided for its money prior to the bankruptcy and final closing of the original Ithaca Co in...

    Who donates to the NRA?

I do not contribute when called on the phone. The callers identify themselves as Infocision representing the NRA. If you do some research, Infocision is a company that was started here where I live and has a somewhat tarnished reputation. They kept a majority of the money that is donated...

Gun sold on GB never been claimed

as soon as the gun was received at the FFL, it was put on his books. in order to transfer it off his books, it will have to go to another FFL, or be sold through his shop with a NICS check. a person can receive a gun back from a gunsmith or the factory without a transfer but the OP cannot...

    Scam Alert! Beware!

If you use Google Chrome, there is a feature where you can right click on a picture and search the internet for another version of that picture. I have found lots of scams on Armslist using this method (as well as items on Craigslist, etc, it is not just guns that scammers swipe the pictures of...

    Second Amendment: CBS46News

Take the time to write to the management and thank them. Recently NPR (believe it or not) ran a story that actually presented the facts and was not left leaning spin. I wrote to their management and thanked them for publishing it. I got a positive feedback from them. They thanked me for writing...

Replacement Thumb Safety for Mossberg 500

make sure you use GunTite or other blue colored Loctite that will release on the little screw that holds the safety on. I have seen a couple (owned one of them) that had the screw come loose at a most inopportune moment (the deer standing right in front of me). If the screw loosens up enough...

    New Old Featherlight

The only shot size in a 16ga that is difficult to find is Nbr 5 loads. Here in Ohio retailers do not stock 5's. Midway USA carries Fiocchi Golden Pheasant nbr 5 loads. You should get a box or 2 before the annual run is sold out (unless your area stocks them).

    Disappointing Incident in Gun Store

It is a big deal. At one time in my career I was an insurance agent, one of my clients was a gunshop/shooting range/sporting goods store. One of the employees took a gun into the range to test fire it, left one in the chamber, walked back to the counter, put the gun down and went to operate...

    ithaca deer slayer help

Drive 30 east to 71, 71 north to 76/224. Go 13 miles east to St Rt 21. That part of Ohio :) There are quite a few Ithaca folks around here. The presence of the cap on the end of that mag tube doesn't indicate what it is. There would have to be a barrel lug that a little boss/projection on...

    ithaca deer slayer help

Is it a take down or fixed barrel Deerslayer ? A fixed barrel DS will not have a barrel yoke, nor a barrel lug to secure the barrel. There is not much that can go wrong with an Ithaca that can't be fixed. The ONLY damage that can't be dealt with is damage to the receiver itself. Otherwise...
