Well, it's back from Ruger with a new cylinder and pawl. And it's going back to Ruger tomorrow. The action is locked, cannot cock the hammer with the cylinder inserted. With it removed, it will cock. So that's lovely.
Had a couple guys roaming around my neighbor hood selling home security systems. They seemed a little off to me, so after they left my porch, I walked over to the old lady next door, and she said she got the same vibe from them. So I called the Sheriff. He picked them up a few blocks away...
Thanks! It's older than I thought. Looks like it has been carried a lot, bluing is worn on the muzzle and cylinder. Bore is clean and bright, no flame cutting, tight lock up, smooth trigger pull.
I just bought a K-38 Masterpiece, six in barrel. There's no model number on it, the barrel is stamped .38 S&W Special CTG. Has serialized, correct grips. Serial is K793XX. What's the approximate age of this gun?

That's good to know. I don't really want a .30-06 bomb going off in my face. I'll check the serial number before I buy it. Assuming it passes the serial number test, does that seem like a fair price? I don't know much about 1903's.
Local shop has a Rock Island 1903. It's been sporterized. Has an older scope on weaver mounts. It's in pretty OK shape. Bore looks good. They want $249 for it. Does this sound like a good deal? I don't want it for any collector value, more of a base for a reach out and touch something rifle...
