    Funny Questions from NOOBs

Just out of curiosity, since you brought "pistols" the second time, what were you shooting the first time? Rifles? Shotguns? (A revolver *is* a pistol, both by traditional and legal definitions)

Gun shop etiquette , rookie question.

Second the comments about being drawn on by employees. In fact, I'm throwing the "bovine manure" flag.

    Phonetics: Sellier and Bellot/others?

Did somebody mention Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and how to correctly pronounce some bit of culture in the same sentence???? I'm still laughing. Leupold is really pronounced LEWpold. .308 in a semi-auto battle rifle is nowhere near bad recoil. Bolt action 30-06 is my threshold for the "starting...

gas operated or inertia driven ?

Super Black Eagle is inertia driven. Super 90. the M4, is a gas gun. I like the gas recoil system of my M4, and I do like the Browning Gold system, and even the Saiga 12.

    Can I use 3" shells in a Rem 1100 20 GA LT 2 3/4 chamber?

Ok, two thoughts. 1. Do not fire 3 inch, or 3.5 inch shells, out of a gun marked for 2 and 3/4. Never. Here is a story: Guy I knew shot 3 inchers out of his Drilling, made for 2 and 3/4 shells in the shotgun barrels and 30-06 in the rifle. He shot off a 3 incher, and the gun fired all 3...

Remington rifles fire on their own?

No, it's not fact. It's misrepresentation. The fact is that, yes, one can, by holding the safety halfway engaged, pull the trigger, and have the gun fire when the safety is released, on a very few guns. The misrepresentation is "All Remington 700s can fire when the safety is turned off."...

    Building a Mountain Howitzer

Bear in mind that a functional cannon has to get some sort of stamp, I think. IANAL (I love that acronym) and I could be wrong.

    HK Raided by Police

I have had two interactions with HK customer service. 1. I called to get, straight from the horse's mouth, whether the HK91 is a .308 or a 7.62x51, and whether the HK93 is 5.56 or .223. They answered, and I was happy. 2. I had a slight bit of trigger creep in the match trigger of my USP...

Whatever Happened to Remington Electronic Firing?

There are no benefits to electronic ignition that aren't outweighed by the drawbacks of introducing a whole other power system into a handheld weapon. While, conceptually, the idea of electronics removing all the variances of the mechanical linkage works, I guess, it is statistically...

    HK Raided by Police

The people that hate HK are usually the ones that can't afford their products. So, they belittle the company to feel better about themselves. Also, the people that say their guns are overpriced usually haven't shot them. Similar to Taurus, HK is one firearms company that most people here speak...

My pet names for the "Assault Weapon"

I own 'guns'. Several are 'rifles' One is an 'AR-15,' another is a 'SKS.' The first is a 'Colt Law Enforcement;' the second is a 'Norinco 20" rifle' No need for the term assault rifle, other than to describe a specific class of rifle as said above.

    I don't get sporterizing...

Most people have an over-inflated idea of how good they are at something, so, most of the time, anything you do to something out of the factory makes it worth less and uglier. Even some of the rifles in this thread looked better to start with than after their owning was finished with them...

Difference between an AR-10 and AR-15 in .308?

    Good Data on .308 v. 30-06

Hrrrm. The Soviet round is 7.62x39, the .308 is 7.62x51, and the 30-06 is 7.62x63. I notice no one is saying the Soviet round can be amped up to beat all .308s, yet the case length difference is the same. (I do realize it is a percentage thing, but it is still a valid point.) As I recall, the...

Where do you do your gun Research?

As for price, Gunbroker is good. Get an account and you can see what completed auctions actually went for. Since there's a no-criticizing-ads policy here, those ads that have absolutely NOBODY responding? Yeah, people went and checked gunbroker and realized the guy wants more for his 5000...

I used to get a little weirded out at night coming back from the tree stand as a kid. Then I remembered I was carrying enough gun to drop anything on the continent.
