    Old powder

Last summer I had 5 lbs. or H4831 left from a 25 pound metal tin purchased used in 1990. I had been keep pouring into smaller containers over time to keep most of the air out. I was planning to make up some deer loads for myself since everyone in my family has been shooting it for over 20...

do i really need a chrono?

There are two chrono people in this world. One's with chrono that haven't used and one's with chronos that are shot to pieces. Always remember the height of your optics MUST be taken into consideration when placing you shots above the chrono. (I just got number 4 chrono).

    cant hit anything.

Use copperplate hollow points for squirrels. I call them DDT(Drop Dead Twice. Holding any gun off-hand(standing straight up) without a bench is difficult. Find something to lean against or rest the stock on when hunting. Practice that at the range too. Look at where your gun is hitting; dead...

    Danish Garand barrel

I have a Danish M1 Garand and am trying to research my barrel. The barrel imprint on the right side is marked ASC (within a circle) 1958 and PK also within a circle. I assume the PK is a Danish proof mark, but I cannot find any reference to ASC. I will note a few parts are stamped PB, which...

    Can rust spread by contact?

Theoretically it could depending upon what caused the rust in the first place. I've known people to clean barrels with chlorine based products which could be transferred from one barrel to the next. You need to neutralize these products when finished using them. This could only happen if you...

    loading for antique 12 gauge

Damascus/ twist. Had checked out by a trusted gunsmith. Said it was ok to shoot modern loads as long as pressure was minimal. I like to stay under 6,000 psi

    loading for antique 12 gauge

I used to make low pressure loads for an old parker s/s. I found out in addition to a powder shortage that now 7625 and PB(my favorite powders) are being discontinued at the end of 2014. Any suggestions? 1 1/8 oz. loads any powder, primer, stay with popular wads and hulls?

    Copper Bullets

Josmund would you please get your sister to point to a source of information about which you are referring. A friend of mine also mentioned lead poisoning in regard to bullets left in gut piles through the MN Rescue for Raptors program. I "Googled" them and got 40 hits on lead poisoning, none...

    Copper Bullets

Lead in your food? Are we taking in all the "%$#@ stuff from the People's Republic of California? Fact #1 There is lead in copper bullets as well as a lot of other stuff I would not recommend you eat on a daily basis. You cannot shoot a 100% copper bullet. Fact #2 Eagles and Condors continue...

    Am I Partly to Blame?

I am getting better though, 20 years ago a fella had the hots for my $90 trolling motor and traded me 25# of 4831, 3# green dot, 2/m primers a couple open bags of shot and threw $20 on top. I used almost it all up except for the 4831 which all my brothers and children and relatives have been...

Two bullets same load one keyholes??

If it is .45 cal, buy a difference gun. Most .45s don't like wad cutters. A good gun smith can polish a ramp and alter the magazine for a pistol to accept them and shoot them accurately.

Low primer depth in 12 guage causing misfires.

For Bibbyman the crease in the middle or bottom of the shell is cause by inconsistent pressure on your crimp closure die. On you machine look for a arching like cam above the closing crimp station. There will be an allen screw along the lead edge. Loossen it and move it usually up 1/32 of an...

Low primer depth in 12 guage causing misfires.

Three answers; 1) If your shells were previously loaded with CCI or Nobel primers which will change the depth the next time they are loaded 2) Check your priming station...the machine should never change the depth unless pellets are in the primer holder or the support primer cup arm is...

    what neutralized gun powder?

I believe mineral spirits or kerosene will do the job nicely, however, I like a match on the 4 of July or the lawn in your backyard. High nitrogen in a garden will produce a lot of leaf but no fruit.

Green Dot for 45 and 9mm LSWC

I've been casting Lee's SWC 124 grain which ends up being about 121 grain when using 20 to 1 tin in 9mm. Alliant told me to load Red Dot 3.8 to 4.2 They took it out of the reloading manuals because it meters very poorly(too light). Also REMEMBER RED DOT was "improved" last June, 2013 and...

Can you identify this old stevens shotgun?

looks like an early Model 2 Savage shotgun. Later they added the gauge as part of the Model number like 220 was a model 2 twenty gauge. I bought one thirty years ago, shot it for rabbit and squirrel and eventually denated to the DNR for a display gun at Hunter Safety.

    New shotgun issue

Try lubricating it with Rem Oil as well as the linkage. Beretta's and Bennellis tend to jam up in the same fashion when used with slow burning powder, like steel shot and other hunting loads.

Anyone know if this is real?

I saw these for sale at Cheaper than Dirt back in the early 90's They sold for around $300 when people were really into black powder. It obviously a Colt model remake. Times have changed. You can find them new at Cabalas for around $200 and being used with no accessories, like box etc. $80...
