I have been shooting the Xtremes and have no problem with them. They do have a maximum velocity, but they are very popular with our local shooters in USPSA and IDPA.
I started with Steel Challenge to get used to running with an RO and a timer. Then I ventured into USPSA and really like that. There is a problem solving element to USPSA, because in most stages, there are options on which order to shoot targets in etc.

+1 on the 22/45 Mark III. Sucks to reassemble, but once you find the right You Tube video to teach you, you are golden. Lots of possible upgrades if you want to spend more money.
If you are looking for an alternative bullet, check out Leatherhead Bullets out of Nampa, Idaho. They are making moly coated cast bullets, and are getting really good reviews. You can find them on facebook (not sure if the website is up and running yet).

I like 115gn RN plated over 3.9 Titegroup at 1.15 oal. These have served me well. I can't find my load data for the 124gn right now, but will keep looking.
You can also check www.twoalphasupply.com for bullets in stock. Decent prices, and good customer service. I found them when buying some bullets on GB (had to have them NOW! )
