    My First Pistol

My first handgun was an old Iver Johnson break-top .38 that I inherited some time before joining the Air Force in 1955 (I'm OLD!) I forgot to recover it from the armory (required safe storage) when being transferred from my second duty station. I often wonder who might have it today . . . Since...

Does Anyone Here Still Carry or Shoot DA/SA?

I have a beautiful Astra Constable (just like James Bond's carry gun : - ) in .380 that I keep where I can get it easily at 3 a.m. if necessary. I really like the DA/SA feature and the decock lever. It's also very nice that they added a truly gorgeous dark-blue finish. (I only pack it if I'm...

    Load for 125 gn SWC?

Some time ago, my shooting buddy somehow acquired a bunch of 125 gn SWC bullets for .38 - 357. After looking through five different loading manuals and then doing an online search, we have not been able to find a powder charge for that bullet type and weight. We prefer to use Bullseye or W231...

Cross hair versus circle/dot aiming point

I greatly prefer the duplex. "Fat" outer posts for quickly focusing on the center region, where there are very fine inner crosshairs that won't obscure the target. But everyone is wired differently, and I'm sure that other designs work as well or better for other folks.

    IWB Holster for Astra Constable

Does anyone have an experienced recommendation for a really concealable IWB holster that fits the Astra Constable, for summer wear under a sorta loose T-shirt? Thanks.

Why the question "Why do you need a gun?" is malformed.

"For the same reason that you need a fire extinguisher."

    philippine 1911

I have an ATI FX45 1911. It is made by Shooters Arms Manufacturing (S A M). I've only put 100 rounds through it but so far I am very happy with it. It looks to be really well made, very well fitted, and I understand that it's carved from really good steel.

    Springfield Armory Service

I have an old, much-used Springfield Compact (i.e. Commander) 1911 which was in need of attention. The thing that finally moved me to take it in for service was its refusal to go completely into battery after a dozen or so shots at the range. I took it to my ‘smith, who charged me $25 and USPS...

    My Political Belief

The government should be able to regulate the content of any radio, television or internet broadcasts, including political or religious expressions sent out over the air or the internet, as well as political or religious beliefs expressed within buildings, through the use of microphones...

    Philippine 1911's- real deal

Actually his statement is correct; note that he said "many [not "all"] Philippine-made 1911s are made by one company." According to your information, that is correct. Also -- just to complete my original post -- I have since learned that my ATI is made by S A M.

    Philippine 1911's- real deal

I do not have a Metro, but I do have a Philippine 1911 – with the ATI brand on it. I put it that way because my gunsmith told me that many Philippine-made 1911s are made by one company, and branded for the company that imports and sells them here. Grabagun.com had them on sale for $329 (and...

CCW belt and holster - nice!

My Own Experience along with many experiences of folks who have posted here leads me to suggest that for most persons it is very difficult to find a perfect solution to the difficulties attendant upon concealed carry. Certainly it is extremely difficult to find the perfect holster for all...

    "Possibily" Stupid Fireams Quotes ?

I Just Ran Across This One on another site, and thought you all would find it hilarious, as I did. "As to the gun nuts and their misinterpreted reverence for the Second Amendment, I have been a French and Indian War re-enactor for over a decade and as part of that have been involved in...

    Yet Another Shooting

Troutdale police chief has just announced that one student was killed by the shooter. It hurts to lose any person to this sort of mad violence, but when it's a young person it hurts more.

    Yet Another Shooting

Dozens and dozens of police are at this moment surrounding Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon, on report of "an active shooter" in the school. Students are streaming out single-file in two directions with their hands up. News reports are that five local police officers, first on the...

CCW holders and mass shootings, etc?

I think this is an important aspect of the mass-shooting debate. I'd like to report on an ironic case of unintended consequences (refutation of an anti-2A argument) that may provide data of interest on this matter. A day or two ago there was an article -- on a political site -- with the...

Patent filed for smart gun remote kill

The Link is Not Working It takes me to this -- and has for some time now. On edit: I went to the company website and found nothing there about the remote E-kill switch; I did find this, however, in a discussion of the kinds of things the company produces:

    Hearing loss? best ear plugs?

I Use a Combination The foam plugs that I find work best for me are the Howard Leight "Leight Sleepers" plugs (32 db), the striped red and yellow ones. Once they're in there's no sensation at all of having anything in the ear, and they allow me to sleep comfortably even in very noisy...
