Street reputation of various handgun loads?

@golden Thanks. I have a relative who is retired from the NYPD in the 1980s. They were using standard pressure semi-wadcutters at the time. IIRC, 158gr at 755 f.p.s. through the Model 10. I guess they experimented with other ammo for the .38. I guess it was after the semi-wadcutter era. They...

Street reputation of various handgun loads?

Presumably the fmj referred to above are round nose ones. There are flat nose bullets as well. In the history of hollow points, I have to wonder if a person would have been better off with the flat nose rather than a hollow point many times. Many hollow points have not penetrated as far in live...

    No, rather stopping a threat.

Street reputation of various handgun loads?

There is ballistic gel everyone is familiar with. For this thread, I'd like to keep gel out of the discussion. What is the street reputation of particular loads using common handgun calibers like 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .38 Special, and .357 magnum? What are loads that did well in which...

9mm through longer than typical pistol barrels?

I guess a person needs to apply for permission to acquire a 9mm carbine with a barrel in the 9-12" range mentioned above.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

Agreed about the Bren Ten. I don't know why CZ canceled the CZ 75 in .40. It had weight behind it to soak up recoil. I guess is just wasn't selling.

9mm through longer than typical pistol barrels?

Yes, it depends on the powder being used. I'm guessing manufacturers use fast burning powders for 9mm due to most of it being fired through pistols.

9mm through longer than typical pistol barrels?

There are the PCCs out there that shoot 9mm. I think they typically have 16" barrels. Does a 16" barrel provide more velocity for the 9mm cartridge than a shorter barrel? What is the best barrel length for the highest 9mm velocity? Assume factory loaded ammo.

    Ammo purchases by gov agency?

I wonder if they practice with the same ammo they carry. That would be mostly wasteful.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

Ironically, the PX4 gets good reviews. Maybe it would sell if they made one with an alloy frame. And maybe make a subtle change or two to the style. Those PX4s supposedly have lower recoil than many of their competitors. The action is much different.

    Ammo purchases by gov agency?

There's a video stating the irs bought 5 million rounds of ammo. What kind of pistol ammo did they buy?

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

@W.E.G. : There was the single stack version of the 915 as well.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

A person must have deep pockets to spend 6K on one gun.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

Another good post, sir. I didn't know S&W sent a pistol for military trials in the 80s. I think the latest SD9/40 and SD9/40VE look better than the M&P series. There is the M&P in tan with the 5" barrel that is nice to my eyes, though. I shoot my 1911 better than my 9mm polymer gun. Also...

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

Boneheaded moves may be to milk the manufacturer as much as possible. An investment company bought Remington in 2007. They ran the company into the ground. Maybe decision makers at Ruger are on drugs, or micro-dosing drugs like some do in Silicon Valley.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

If a LEO with a P320 has a negligent discharge, he/she can blame it on the gun.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

Impressive. I'm surprised you don't use DA/SA for action shooting.

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

Good post. Agreed on the market for legacy pistols, especially with 1006s going for $1000 to $1500 and up. I didn't know they go for that much money. I noticed some "blemished" Colt Pythons were sold out quickly for $1100. I don't know how well the P210s are selling. I get the S&W 915...

Should S&W bring back 3rd gen pistols?

CZ still makes the 75, of course. The only clone I can think of is Tanfoglio. I think the Turks stopped making their CZ clones. Am I missing any other clones?
