    .35rem Ammo in stock?

Two years ago I bought an old 336 in 35 Remington and I couldn't find any ammo on shelves in the Denver area. I ordered and back ordered from several online sources and eventually started to get some. I think some manufacturers do their yearly run of that caliber all at once, so it is...

Picking up a ruger gp100, trigger job info?

You may want to shoot the gun for a while, including lots of dry firing, to see how it smooths out. I have guns with action jobs and lighter springs that aren't reliable with all ammo. I bought a GP100 5" about six months ago and I dry fired it 1,000 rounds before I shot it. After a couple of...

    S&W Shield Recall

Mine, a 40, checks out ok, as well. Glad I don't have to send it back. Works great so far.

S&W Shield : What are the facts ?

I just got a Shield 40 and it is good, so far. Recoil is mild with the 40's and it shoots to point of aim. Sights are easy to see. It is thin enough to be easy to carry and heavy enough to manage recoil. First 50 rounds fired without a problem. I ordered a Lasermax and a holster for CCW. I...

    The model 29 S&W

I have a very nice 29-3, 6 inch, which I bought used around 1989. It didn't appear to have been shot much or carried, since the finish was great. I have carried it while hiking in the Yellowstone region, before I got a Ruger Alaskan. It is a great shooter, with an extremely smooth trigger...

The ultimate woods bummin around gun.

Recently my woods guns are either a SP101 3" or a Ruger Alaskan 44. The SP101 can utilize fairly hot loads with some control and isn't very noticeable for CCW situations or in open carry. The Alaskan is a hunk, however you carry it.

    S&W 686 Good Speedloader

+1 on the 5 Star speedloaders for my 686 Plus. Loads smoothly and seems to retain the rounds when rattling around in a coat pocket.

Anyone had any experience with S&W Customer Service?

My Talo 3-5-7 686 3" came with the barrel noticably canted. It also had the fancy grip screw head damaged (not necessarily by S&W). I sent an e-mail to Smith and Wesson customer service asking what they thought I should do and if they thought the canted barrel was a serious problem. Within a...

    LaserMax guide rod laser...?

I have a LM guide rod laser in my Glock 23 and it hasn't had a problem for over 10 years. I like it a lot, since it vastly improves my ability to use the gun effective in low light, when bad things usually happen. It has always been very close to POI, with only a slight variation with ammo. I...

    Ruger 10/22 sights..

+2 on the Tech Sights. Easy to adjust and allowed me to shoot much smaller groups with my 10-22. Not too pricey.

    Best handgun you ever fired?

A Smith and Wesson Model 66, 4", with an action job and Fuzzy Farant grips that were matched to a drawing of my hand. Carried it as a duty weapon and shot it a lot for many years. I shot it better than any other handgun. I sold it and have regretted it over the years.

    Good source for SP101 grips?

I have CT Lasergrips on my 3" SP101 and I like the way that they feel secure in my hand when shooting. All of my fingers fit on the grip. Then there is the obvious advantage of the laser.

Ruger SP101 vs Glock 20 SF

I have several larger guns than an SP101 including a Glock. When I carry a hiking gun, I seem to end up with my SP101, 3" in a Hunter 1100 holster. It is the most comfortable option for me, even though I know I should have more gun in areas with grizzlies. Bear spray, which I carry, may be...

If you carry a snub iwb, which position and cant do you prefer and why?

I carry IWB and on the belt at about the 4:00 position, with a little forward cant. Just feels the best to me after years as an LEO. Easy access and comfortable, and the gun is out of the way if facing an aggressor. Sometimes, when driving or when hiking gear is in the way, I carry crossdraw...

avoiding ear damage with powerful rifles

I have some hearing loss from military, law enforcement, and recreational shooting, as well as diving, flying, and loud music. Recently I had a poured in molded ear plug made by an audiologist and it works better than any other types that I have tried. I still double up with muffs to try to...

Any recommended sideholster for SW 686 4 inch

Don't forget an old standby, the Hunter 1100. I think yours would take a size 66. I have started using several of these for hiking with K frames and they work really well. This holster has been around for decades and Hunter still makes them, also, they can be found used on eBay. You can...

If you could have only one .38 / 357...

Best compromise (all guns are a compromise) is the Model 19/66. Balance, range of ammo, accuracy. Ask an old revolver cop who carried one for years. Besides, they just feel good.

Help picking a full size 357 mag revolver

I really like classic Smith and Wessons, and have shot them a lot, especially 19's and 66's. That said, my GP100 is sturdy, accurate and after 1,000 dry fires and about 500 rounds through it, the action is too smooth to need an action job. I haven't had a 686 but when handling them they feel...

    Ruger GP100s

I have a 4" blued GP100 and it does everything well. It is accurate at 25 yards, I have never had a misfire, and the action (after a little dry firing) is very smooth. I feel secure in carrying maximum pressure bear loads. It is heavy enough that recoil is minimal and it is an easy gun learn...
