Does reduced recoil = less power?

Snarlingiron you make an interesting point, and I would certainly weigh reduced pellet count vs. reduced velocity if I were picking a reduced power SD load. But for an apples to apples comparison of shot shells one needs to consider the size, weight, velocity and quantity of projectiles. I...

Looking for a tactical but not tacticool knife

SM: Thanks for the link, I really like that Prankster with the cocobolo scales. Unfortunately from reading the description, I think Washington State's lame knife laws might prohibit it as a "gravity knife" Browsing that site I also found a couple CRKTs that I kind like. I think I need to...

Looking for a tactical but not tacticool knife

I should also add that I don't mind spending $2-3 maybe 400 for the right knife. I saw a couple Benchmades that had the looks at a local shop, but were lacking the functionality.

Looking for a tactical but not tacticool knife

Perhaps I should clarify, I work for a fortune 500 company, which has a (stupid, counterproductive) no “weapons” policy. I carry a knife clipped to my jeans (very casual office, industry & region) anyway figuring that I could call it a tool if anyone ever called me on it. Recently it used it...

Looking for a tactical but not tacticool knife

I’m looking for an ambidextrous assisted opener that does not scream Mall Ninja. Has anyone seen such a beast? There seems to be a huge no man’s land between the tacticool assisted openers and the overly genteel “collectables”. I’d love something like my Kershaw Speedbump with wood...

    Temperature of .30-06 shells

I would attribute it to the longer time the shell spent in the chamber transferring after firing in the 1903. The steel action would be able absorb the heat a lot faster than the air the Garand’s shells were flying through almost immediately after firing.

    Dual Ownership?

I think you will need to disclose which state you are in before anyone can answer you question.

    Where's the Kel-tec site?

Looks like someone let their domain name registration expire. :banghead: With any luck they will come up with a new name (or scare the squater off with legal threats) and be back up before too long.

    supposed mystery weapon (small pic)

I'm going to guess it is a crude (probably muzzle loading) BIG bore shotgun intended to take down choppers. I wouldn’t be much fun to fire, but a few ounces of 000 (or nuts and bolts) at even 500 fps should have a fair chance of downing a low flying, unarmored transport chopper if it wasn’t...

    Do gunmakers still do QC?

This could be the bright side of the goofy “ballistic fingerprinting” laws. Even though it is not required in my state, my new S&W 1911PD came with a fired case that S&W swears was fired by my gun. It won’t tell them anything about how it groups or feeds, but it should highlight some egregious...

    Tell me about your S&W1911PD!

I love mine. I kinda wish it was heavier (mine has a Sc frame and weight 28 or 30 oz.) as it really kicks with hot loads. I think that the fact that the drop safety is actuated by the gripsafety rather than the trigger probably helps the trigger a lot. I've got about 450 FMJs and 200 JHPs...

You know your a mall ninja when...

I was temped to get one to win the “tacti-cooler than thou” contest that seems happen (among a few students) at shooting schools. But I don’t own a pistol with a rail, so I may have to settle for a 40 round drum for my new 1911...

Bye bye Marine Corps, hello WA!

I wouldn't live there, but Seattle isn’t that bad. I live on the eastside now, but when I lived in Seattle I discovered thru casual conversation that my mechanic and dentist both carried, and I worked with a number of vets and reservists. BTW: the gunshop and indoor range on Bel-Red is...

1911 45acp - Is it the caliber or platform that attracts most?

Its the platform for me My next 1911 will probably be a 10mm. I just love the ergonomics and esthetics.

    LFI 1 Course in NC

Its been a few years but I think it was limited to 25 when I took it. I think there was an instructor for every 3-4 students during the shooting instruction. You should also plan some extra trigger time after the class to hone/reinforce your new skills after the class. On the Mall...

    If you were president..

You guys are all thinking too small. The big name ‘smiths would fall all over themselves to provide the President a custom pistol that he would carry openly. BTW: I think that the White House has bowling alley in the basement that would make a fine indoor range.

    If you founded a country...

I love Gridlock I say we elect the Senate by party. For each percentage point of the vote a party gets it gets one Senator. The Dems and Reps would probably each get 30-40% and the rest would be split among the Libertarians, Wobblies, Commies, Greens, Constitutionalists, etcetera. I...

Non-gun friendly company...what would you suggest for SD?

Sounds like an exciting job. Wow, distracted, hands full and obviously worth robbing in “questionable parts of town”. :what: I wouldn’t worry too much about your customers since most of them will know that your dispatcher knows where you are. I’d worry about everyone else. A stolen...

    Pre-fragmented rounds

I use to carry them, but stopped because of under penetration worries. I don’t worry much about arms in the way, I figure that if my assailant’s arm is between us it is probably holding a weapon, and wrecking said is probably going to cure that. My issue is fat guys, gym rats and worst of...

Name your "I can't believe someone doesn't make this" product!

Hey Carnaby A compressor will give you slightly warmer than room temp air (due to friction), but gas (CO2 or air) that has been compressed for a while will come out of the nozzel pretty cold. Maybe you should just whip up an adapter to use one of those cans of air that are sold for cleaning...
