I'm new to rifle reloading. Is this what incipient case head separation looks like?
The cases are .308, Winchester, only fired twice through a Kel-Tec RFB but I'm told that rifle is very hard on cases.
Thank you in advance.
Recently I was presented with an unsharpened wakizashi. I'd like to know if the blade is capable of being sharpened and holding an edge, and I'm unfamiliar with these matters. I'd appreciate any suggestions regarding a company or individual capable of helping me with this. If location is...
The only period-correct items in my Walker kit are the caps, balls, and gun. If I can't get another loading lever keeper, I'm likely to try small rubber bands!
Not a spring, it was two metal cylinders joined together that slid over the end of the barrel and loading lever to keep the latter from dropping. The upper cylinder had a cutout for the front sight.
Is rawhide the user's name or a suggestion for a period-correct solution?
Thanks for all the help. I recalled that the frizzen action was rough, but when I tried it this weekend it was smooth, and opened completely six out of six times when struck.
It's nice to have gremlins FIX something for a change!
Thank you for asking. The specialized vise from Track Of The Wolf had the same problem as my c-clamp - instead of compressing the spring it squeezed it out to a point where sufficient compression did not occur. A small vise grip was successful in getting the spring back into the lock. But the...
Last night I disassembled the lock of my Harper's Ferry pistol (Uberti replica, 1985). This has resulted in quite a learning experience. In particular, I can't compress the mainspring enough to get it back in the lock. The small c-clamp I am using slides off the spring instead of compressing...
I used a classic loader for a couple of years until I got a turret press. If you go with it I have two recommendations:
Get a scale instead of relying on the powder dipper.
Get a hand priming tool, detonating primers while hammering a case down onto them is very annoying.
In season three there was a scene with the Gov. talking with Tyreese et al. in a supply room in Woodbury, and there was what looked like a reloading press on the table they were around.
I just write a sequential number on each 50-cartridge box for my modern handguns. For my cap and ball revolver, I write the number on each box of 100 balls.
The finished cartridge is after the bullet seating die, which I just adjusted to take the case mouth diameter down to 0.471. That seems more sensible.
The resizing die takes the case mouth diameter to 0.468-0.469.
Just upgraded from a Lee Classic (whack-a-mole) loader to a Lee Classic Turret. So far things appear to be going well, but the resizer die takes the case diameter by the extraction groove down to 0.471. The finished cartridge has a case diameter at the mouth of 0.473 (which I gather is...
