Shining a Light on One Cause of Pistol Inconsistency

There's something wrong with your load(s). All those groups are poor at that distance, but your lead loads are terrible. What dies are you using? I'd venture a guess you're under-sizing the lead bullets either through seating or crimping with a Lee FCD or they're not being seated straight and...

VV N340 with Hornady 124gr XTP?

Yeah, not really. Each 124 gr bullet has both a different ogive and overall length (of the bullet itself). Some are very long bullets, others shorter. Some ogives are more to the rear of the bullet than others. The length can cause pressure increases (over other 124 grain bullets...

VV N340 with Hornady 124gr XTP?

I have loaded the 124 grain Hornady HAP, not the XTP, but the exact same bullet without the skives with that combo, but do not load it for maximum velocity. In a Glock, you'll have plenty of leeway on OAL. Mine, with the stock barrel, will load all the way out to 1.156" or so. I'd find a...

Help me figure out if this is a slam fire or bad loading. KABOOM!

That was an out of battery detonation certainly judging from the brass. If it were an overpressure load, you'd have had more damage than you do now too. The "why" is tough to diagnose. Is there any possibility that the brass wasn't fully sized down to the base, preventing the round from fully...

    Bayou 124g TCG oal ?

How long is that bullet? I load the PD 124 JHP which is 0.580" long from tip to tail to 1.085" and 1.080" OALs in 9mm to fit in my CZ. I think you'll be fine at 1.075" with that light charge of TG regardless, but if the bullet measures shorter than mine, I'd feel safe launching a few over the...

Most accurate 9mm for under $1000

Most of the posts in this thread aren't useful for determining anything as they don't have any quantifiable data nor a consistent standard of measurement. Anecdotal data of "tackdriver", "very accurate" or "silver dollar" sized groups or rounds "stacked on top of one another" at 30 or 50 ft...

Dillon 650 Bulk Reloading Mixed 556/223

1.) Don't sort them 2.) Ditch the single stage and size/trim them all in one step on the 650 on a separate tool head using the Dillon trimmer and a FL sizing die 3.) Tumble off the lube 4.) Swage them all if needed 5.) Load them up on the 650 on another tool head If you give them a slight...

How much time to reload 1000 rounds?

On prepped brass, with filled primer tubes, case feeder and powder hopper, 1,000 rounds in an hour of rifle is doable on a bullet fed + case fed 1050 or 650, but it's pushing it simply because it takes a short while for the small necked .223 cartridge to fill with powder. It's possible to do...

Most accurate 9mm for under $1000

Trojan's are about ~$1,200. My take on the OP was that he was looking for a list of <$1000 pistols.

Most accurate 9mm for under $1000

    From what I've actually fired: 1.) Re-barreled Gen4 Glock 17 - 1.3" 10-round group at 25 yards 2.) CZ 75 Shadow - 1.4" 10-round group at 25 yards 3.) H&K VP9 - 1.8" 10-round group at 25 yards These were all with my reloads and are the best 10-round groups I've shot, so far, if I remember...

    Ammunition and Accuracy

Wierd things can happen if you shoot enough. Manufacturers have put out some bad stuff at times trying to keep up with demand. However, I've fired or seen fired hundreds of thousands of rounds in the past five years and only seen two instances where ammunition was defective to the point of not...

    Ammunition and Accuracy

Average plastic people poppers like you're shooting will average ~3-5" at 25 yards with most generic ball ammo out there (measured by 10-round groups shot from a rest). I'm guessing you're setting up closer in, somewhere between 21 - 30 ft. based on where people normally shoot at my range. At...

    brass cleaning poll

I've done all three, ultrasonic, dry and SS wet. Of the three methods, dry is the quickest and easiest, ultrasound being the next easiest and SS wet being the most time consuming. Of the three methods, SS wet produces the best looking brass. None of the three methods in my experience...

    9mm bullet help

Don't count me in as a fan of the PD FMJ bullets for accuracy. I've gotten batches with mixed ogives and the bases aren't consistent in comparison to Zero. If I had to shoot FMJ, I'd pick Zero over PD every time. However, their JHPs are much more consistent.

    9mm bullet help

My favorite jacketed bullet on a cost vs. performance basis is currently the PD 124 gr JHP which I've bought in 10K lots the last few years. It's a great practice round that gives up little in performance when loaded well. PD does let 1% to 2% per 1K rounds through lately that are obviously too...

    Reloading .45acp

1.) Lee dies are fine 2.) Carbide, yes, or you'll kick yourself later 3.) Lube them anyway (although you'll get differing opinions) 4.) Don't ever need to trim pistol 5.) No difference in the data, SP might have a harder time igniting some powders, most toss them 6.) Taper crimp just to...

    Best compromise

In my own experience for belt carry anything G19-sized is, in my opinion, the best compromise in terms of grip length and weight while still being able to achieve a full firing grip, sight radius and maintain significant magazine capacity. If you're trying to pocket carry, it's hard to beat a...

Why such a difference in price btw M&P9/Glock 17?

M&P 9mms have persistant accuracy isues that have plagued the 4.25" and 5" models. I wouldn't buy one sight unseen.

Anyone load Maxam CSB-5 in 9mm/40 cal Pistol

Those are very nice ES and SD readings. My guess is my charge weights dropped from a Dillon powder measure weren't as accurate as yours as mine were higher, although they were for 10 round strings. It does seem like the Glock and Star 30M have similar chamber dimensions, given my results.

Anyone load Maxam CSB-5 in 9mm/40 cal Pistol

Nordeste, I tried a 4.74 CSB-1 grain load in my H&K VP9 today. The much tighter H&K chamber makes a big difference. I didn't chrono these loads, but I'm guessing they were 1150+ fps from the feel of things. The brass was noticeably expanded towards the base, but the primers didn't show...
