    Advice on Mosin-Nagant Purchase?

I picked up a 91/30 awhile back, an all matching 1940 Izhevsk with the proper prewar stock. The slip on pad is nice because you make no permanent change to the weapon and it adds some needed length. The machining on the high wall/prewar is much higher quality. If the bolt is sticking try...

Slide Glide lubes, necessary or snake oil salesmen behind it.

I've been using this Lubriplate 930 it's a sort of white grease with a wide temp range.

    Diopter Sights

I saw where a New Zealand company is starting to manufacture these for the K31, but I'm not sure what their price point will be yet. Hopefully it will be more affordable than a Swiss set. I may pick up one of the elcheapo stick-ons from Midway just to see what it's like. RC, I know exactly...

    Diopter Sights

Maybe I should punch about a 1/16th hole in a piece of tape and stick that on my glasses. That should prove a cost effective test lol.

    Diopter Sights

Anyone use these? Are they worth the expense? Since I'm not on the sunny side of 50 anymore I have a lot of trouble seeing much past 200 yards. I have a problem justifying spending more on optics than I did for the rifle, but the K31 I'd like to install them on is such a nice rifle. I honestly...

    Drift the Mosin's Sight?

I was surprised at how accurate a $75 rifle the Mosin turned out to be once i got it shimmed properly. I believe they were sighted in with the bayonet fixed so some adjustment would be expected. Your grouping certainly looks close enough to kill whatever you were shooting at.

    7.62x39 platform

I'm partial to my SKS, it's reasonably accurate, and easy to maintain. Here in KY you're not going to be shooting far enough to really need a scope. And in a worst case scenario it makes a much better club than some plastic rifle.

    Any Schmidt Ruben fans here?

The K31 is easily the most accurate rifle I own, in fact I'm sure it's accuracy exceeds it's owners. I've only shot the surplus GP11 so I can't comment on the boxer primed rounds. It also has the easiest to use charger or stripper clip I've ever used. At one time they would give you a few when...

Cable Gun Shows - Which is the worst?

They're all pretty sad,,, american gun can build anything for 20 grand lol,,, the simpleton son in law on sons of guns annoys the crap out of me,,, If any producers are reading this give us something that isn't like either of these,,, Occasionally you do see a classic firearm, but then they...

I refinished my mosin for the first time, tell me watcha think

I tried a pack of strippers with the little keepers stamped into them and sliced my thumb as well, then I picked up a pack of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-MOSIN-NAGANT-STRIPPER-CLIPS-IN-BRASS-FREE-S-H-/251015325402?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a71ade6da I had to bend the ends inward...

    Mosin Nagant Problem

Without knowing the rifles history my guess would be someone applied locktite to that screw at some point. Heat will soften it enough to allow removal. Even if its not cemented the heat will help, get it super hot and use your impact driver again. You really don't want to soak all that oil into...

Recoil Pad for Winchester Model 94 30-30?

I bought one of those slip on pads from http://shooterpads.com/ to use on my surplus rifles (which all seem too short). It adds about 1/2" to 7/8ths of length (you can increase this with additional inserts) and does a surprisingly good job of recoil reduction. Best of all it requires no...

What products to you use to care for your gunleather?

The conservator at the museum I talked to said the best thing for leather was pure lanolin. You can find it in your local drugstore. After cleaning, smear it on and then heat it up with a hairdrier the leather will soak it up like a sponge and it wont darken the leather like other products will...

Is it me or are the Nagants a HOT ticket these day?

What's not to like about the mosin??? Picked mine up for under 80 bucks and got to cherry pick thru them. Found a decent prewar that looked barely used and all matching#'s. The only modifications I've made to it were adding 1 shim and a thin piece of cork and that hideous orange color had to...

    Swiss long rifles

The contrasting pistol grip on that one is very cool!!! I bought my 1st Swiss rifle last Friday [1940 walnut k31] and still waiting for it to clear. I hear nothing but good things about them and can hardly wait to give it a test drive.
