    30 cal can appraisal!

Congrats. I hope that my stamp comes through soon. I'm coming up on 4 1/2 months on an E-File. Same can as yours, YHM 7.62 QD titanium Phantom. Nice piece.

Does anyone make rifles with melonite barrels?

I believe that the Smith and Wesson M&P AR15 is a melonite barrel.

    308 semis, rank by accuracy

I have no experience with the FNAR, but currently own a few .308s in FAL/L1A1 and AR variants. I've shot, and have friends with PTRs, Cetmes and G3s. My most accurate gun in the safe is an LRT-308 SASS AR that regularly shoots sub-MOA. While I love the old FALs and L1A1s, the prior poster...

Want to change flash hider on....

You had mentioned that it is a brand new rifle. As long as it's not from a state with assault weapon laws or is under 16", this makes the likelihood of it being pinned on very slim. As such, it's right-hand threads. If you do not have a vice fixture to hold the upper/barrel assembly in a...

    Spike's or PSA lower?

Not sure if there is anything additional. FWIW, I've built three ARs on Spikes lowers and have had no issues with any machining or other dimensions. My own experience has been favorable with them to date. Of course the same goes for DPMS, DEL-TON, Stag, PSA, Rock River, and Daniel Defense on...

    Spike's or PSA lower?

I understand where you're coming from, but to a degree I fail to see what's wrong with the "kewl" factor as you describe it. I really don't spend too much time critiquing any avid shooters regardless of their preference for customization. I have a bigger issue with "safe ninjas" who spend...

    Dpms .223-5.56 ??

    "pieced". Sorry- auto correct.

    Dpms .223-5.56 ??

This one may have all of the same parts as an Oracle, but was pieces together by an individual.

    Dpms .223-5.56 ??

The K means it was a stripped lower and not a part of a factory built gun. Depending on the parts used and the skill of the assembler, it has the potential to be better or worse than a factory built oracle. It was built by an individual, not another factory or DPMS location separate from the...

    Duracoat experience outside guns?

Can't speak for gas tanks, but HK black duracoat has held up very well on the front brake reservoir caps on a couple of Ducs that my wife and I have. Brake fluid doesn't seem to phase it once it cures for a couple of weeks. I've used it on some bolts and small parts as well.

    A-15 Vs AR-15

All ironic anyway, since the "AR" meant "Armalite Rifle" before they gave up the rights to Colt in 1956.

    G3/Ptr 91 vs. Fal

Both great guns, but if you're going to shoot it a lot I'd go (and have gone) with an FAL. The parts are generally more readily available, it's easier to disassemble/reassemble and it's not as ammo sensitive as the HK is. FAL isn't a delayed blowback roller locked system like HK has been fond...

Banning bullet buttons in California because of Colorado and Wisconsin?

It takes the place of the magazine release button on an AR. Instead of just using your index finger to press the button and drop the magazine, the bullet button requires the user to use a pointed object to stick into the mechanism to release the mag.

Best Surplus Powder for 5.56 and 308 Win.

WC844. For all practical purposes, it's a very near clone to H335. I buy it by the 8lb jug from hi tech ammo. I use it to load 5.56, 6.8spc and .308 with very good results. WC 846 is a little slow for m855 and worse with m193. It will work, but WC844 IS the military powder for 5.56 and does...

Going to build a Short Barrel Rifle (AR).

Mid is arguably a better choice on a future or current suppressor candidate. It will have less of an over gassing predisposition when the additional back pressure is introduced from the can. Keep in mind that a lot of the engineering choices that went into an issue M4 were influenced by the...

Going to build a Short Barrel Rifle (AR).

You can have a midlength gas system if you go with a 14.5" barrel. My daughter's carbine is a Daniel Defense middy 14.5" barrel. With the 14.5", the mid system and the additional mass of an H2 buffer and full auto BCG it shoots like a big pellet gun. It's a very pleasant combo. Pic was a...

Banning bullet buttons in California because of Colorado and Wisconsin?

I'm on your side and all, but I see your "California" and raise you a Texas and Georgia. :). It may very well happen there. All of those concerned owners better start doing something in Cali fast, 'cause you have all been getting steamrolled for years and don't appear to have gained much ground.

Tactical Firearms in Katy, TX is for Online Ammo Ban

Browningguy, I don't know if he called you or you got this email, but Jeremy Alcede sent this out earlier today: Response to the “owner of Tactical Firearms supports online ammo sales ban” First, I want to get it out there that I DO NOT support an ammo sales ban. I am never comfortable...

PSA or Del-Ton LPK for AR15?

Either kit is fine. Most of the springs/pins and other small parts aren't going to be measurably different no matter whose kit you buy. As someone stated earlier, all of the factory triggers will feel crappy, long and gritty if you're used to something better anyway. The ALG group is a neat...

    Bushmaster, DPMS or what ?

I'll second the statement that the DPMS .308 stuff seems to be higher quality than their 5.56 offerings. I've had the LRT-308 SASS for a couple of years and I've been pleased with it. On related notes, the Remington .308 offerings are built on the same DPMS platform as well. Freedom...
