Well, I cleaned the 226 this afternoon and took a trip to the range tonight. Unfortunately I only had 1/2 hour before they closed but I was able to put my first 70 rounds through it.
I used Federal 9mm 115 grain (Walmart specials!).
The only issue I had was likely self induced on round...
Guys, I just wanted to update this string and share my purchase decision. After much deliberation, I went in a different direction.
I knew I eventually wanted to get a Sig 220 and I wasn't totally convinced that I'd be happy with a striker fired pistol anyway for my first purchase. Long...
Thanks so much tomrkba for the reading and training suggestions! I will begin to act on this ASAP.
There's a training company called Tactical Defense Institute in West Union, OH. They seem to have a good reputation. Have you heard of them?
Bob
Thank you tomrkba. I've taken 2 basic pistol courses and look forward to more advanced training later this year as funds allow. Are there any books that you or others can recommend for self study?
Thanks - Bob
My thanks to all who have offered feedback. For a novice like me, this is invaluable.
I'm headed to my local shop here this afternoon. I'm leaning towards the M&P at this point as I've shot both and the M&P is about $80 cheaper than the Gen-4 G19.
One thing I will checkout based on a close...
I appreciate all the excellent advice/feedback.
One question I forgot to ask is whether or not either pistol can shoot +p 9mm without placing too much stress on the frame, etc.
Thanks - Bob
I don't own a P220 but rented one at the range a couple of weeks ago and loved it. I had previously shot a 1911 and enjoyed the SIG just as much if not more. I was pretty accurate with it considering my experience.
It's certainly a pistol on my "want" list in the future.
Thanks Skylerbone. A .22 is certainly in the near future due to the cost of ammo, etc. I shot a Ruger Mk III for the first time this past weekend and enjoyed it. I need to look closely at the Browning. Another I like that isn't quite as accurate is the new Ruger SR22.
If I had the...
Thanks for all the feedback! Definitely leaning towards the Smith. Forgot to share that I can get a new Smith for $470 whereas the G19 (Gen-4) would run me $550.
Hey, first post here on the forum. I've been reading for a couple of months.
Anyway, I shot a handgun for the first time in my life last month. Since then, I've been to the range 4 or 5 times and have completed two basic pistol courses.
For my first purchase, I've narrowed the field to...
