Nobody's said it yet, but a decent scope mount will tighten up groups a lot. In many cases, it is reversible (I am going with the S&K mounts) and some still allow you to use iron sights.

For the record, I wound up going with the Millett SP1 and the S&K insta-mount. I've found a few people who have used that combination successfully. I'm waiting for the mount to ship. I'll post more when I get it set up.
Cheap shooting. My recently acquired Mosin was a hundred bucks, and surplus commie rounds are dirt cheap. Contrast with a .308, where you might as well take a match to a dollar bill every time you squeeze.

So my Mosin is shipping real soon and I'm excited to meet her. While I don't expect superb accuracy, I would like "minute of pie-plate" from her. Just for the sake of tightening up the groups, I'm considering adding an inexpensive scope.
