Brand names for reloading dies... does it matter?

Well yes, there is a difference. According to PRECISION SHOOTING Mag (just so I am not attacked for telling the truth...again, or is that still?) the best dies are Redding, Dillon, Forster (not in any order). Then RCBS and Hornady, with Lyman and Lee bringing up the rear. Admittedly Hornady does...

    New reloader with questions

In my opinion, the "top three" learning manuals are LYMAN #49 (new) or 48 (old), DBI METALLIC CARTRIDGE RELOADING 3rd ed (long out of print and stolen from most libraries that used to have it. They told you up front and no BS what was good, what was junk and what you REALLY needed!), Lee Modern...

    Rock Chucker owners

My RC is nearly 40 years old and can do now what it could new then. Show me ANY Lee press that has lasted more than a few years of daily use! I keep hearing of working Lee LoadMasters but have yet to see one. The publisher of RIFLE Mag said the same thing in print too. Like Big Foot, you hear of...

    9mm/.38 Super

The S&W 39/59s were rechambered to .38 Super by Maj. Geo. C. Nonte and written up by him some time ago. Seemed to work fine for him. The mags forced him to use short bullets for an OAL that would fit. Also it is not that hard to do it yourself with drills if you are careful. Yes, there ARE...

I am looking into forming an ammo manufacturing company. $ requirements?

#9 RhinoDefense Member Join Date: July 2, 2010 Posts: 872 Quote: Isn't reloads how Black Hills' Ammo got started? Yes. Jeff Hoffman reloaded the ammunition for his police department using a Dillon 1050 in his garage. That's how he/it got started. Ahhhh...another...

Modifaction to Lee Pro Powder measure system

Love the Lee disk measures. Unlike the "Perfect" powder measure (which surely ISN'T!), the disk measures work great. Never tried the "three disk" measure, but now that you mention it....

    bullet lube missing?

Probably nothing. If you are worried, get some Lee Liquid Alox (also sold by quite a few other companies for less money) and lube them again. I like LLA and use it regularly to lube my bullets, even ones with all the lube in the grooves, just seems to cut back on leading.

    broken rcbs dies HELP

Call or e-mail RCBS (calling will at least let you know that someone got the message, but I have e-mailed and had no problems) and tell them you need a complete new decapping pin and they will send you one, yes, for FREE! I bought a used set of dies and they had a bent rod, a quick e-mail to...

Manuals - Confused by all the different ABC's of Reloading

Unlike some people who claim never to have read the ABCs OF RELOADING and then trashes them, with no actual knowledge of the subject of course, I only post about what I have actual knowledge of, and am regularly attacked for actually having an INFORMED opinion. An informed opinion, how often...

When does a pile of junk become classified as a suppressor?

After reading the pertinent laws I am just as lost now as I was before I began. The ONLY thing that seems to matter is what the BATF agent SAYS it is, not matter what is there.

Dillon 550B - Primer tube safety

Well like a lot of things, it is generally the USER, NOT THE PRODUCT, that is the problem when things go horribly, catastrophically wrong. Like the guy in the ammo factory in WWII who carried primers in a bucket from one place to another (yes, really). He would shake the bucket to hear the...

I am looking into forming an ammo manufacturing company. $ requirements?

Yeah, that is only the MACHINES needed! You need drawing dies for each cartridge, punching dies for various grades/types/thicknesses/diameters of brass (depending on what you want to make), annealing machines for the between draws of the brass, headers (headstamp markers) for each cartridge...

NEF New Owner - Opinions on care?

I was going to say Eezox too. The ONLY thing that will keep a Kimber from rusting in a heart beat. I used to keep it in an oil bath when I got it to keep it from rusting and had to fix everything that was wrong with it, but Eezox finally did the trick. Still rusts, but not anywhere near what it...

    lee breechlock press problem, warranty?

Dave, the post is about the Lee bushing. No where did I find Gonefishin1 state it was RCBS dies he was having problems with, or mentioned them at all. Really, can we keep the posts on topic and about what he asked? Yes, I know that some will now attack me for pointing out the off topic posts and...

    M1 Garand - Powder & Die Selection

IMR 4895 was the powder the M1 Rifle (Garand) was designed around. While NOT THE SAME POWDER, H-4895 (slightly faster and made in Europe, the IMR is made in Canada) is very close and used as well. There are some tricks of the trade with the M1 Rifle that don't (generally) need to be done for...

    lee breechlock press problem, warranty?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Lee Customer (DIS)Service. Yes, Lee DOES claim to have a "Two Year Unlimited Warranty" (or that is what the piece of paper that came with my stuff reads, and no, it doesn't make good toilet paper either, so it is totally worthless, just like the Lee warranty)...

Russian Rifles Used To Hunt Small Game?

The Russians make Olympic .22 cal rifles and handguns, as well as make various grades of .22 LR ammo, plus sell (here at least) quite a few .22 rifles and lots of shoguns, plus combo guns, etc. I don't doubt they are available in Russia as well.

    1911 mags...

Having tried just about every mag out there, including "Colt" (Colt does not make their own mags, they have at least five suppliers, just check the mag marks), Chip McCormick, Wilson, Pachmayer, Metalform, Kimber, Springfield Armory (don't make their own, but made to their spec), Sarco "price...
