    Handgun Hunting

Open sighted Ruger SBH Bisley Hunter .44 mag or long slide 10mm 1911 ... Or red dot G20 10mm. Have taken three with a 10mm in one form or another and will be trying again with the .44 this year. I try to get as close as possible like a bow shot.

    How to survive the "off-season"

I don't actually LIVE in the area I hunt, which means there, in fact, isn't much to "do" before the hunt other than read articles, read maps, talk to friends and landowners (if I see any), go shooting, load ammo, check the bow, check my gear, etc etc..... Also, its tough to get out shooting...

    Quickly applying hearing protection?

OP, I use either the Howard Leight banded plugs above and the Howard Leight Impact Sports electronics when stalking. But you're right ... This is the single bigger thing about hunting deer in thick woods with a .44 or 10mm handgun: finding a way to protect your ears while not sacrificing...

    Ria 10mm 1911

Not at all, Big Shrek! Although I would stay away from anything sharp like G10 sandpaper grips. But any good smooth wood will be fine and the metal frame of a 1911 will be no prob. I just prefer chain link to stippling or checkering. Rubber wraparound grips (on ANYTHING, for that matter) are a...

    Ria 10mm 1911

To the OP, My dad owned an RIA 10mm 1911 and it was a real shooter. Fully supported barrel (great support, too), reliable and accurate. He didn't even change the RSA although, as you have opted to do, would change the RSA to a 20lb or so. Otherwise, a great gun and a great value. My...

Ruger SRH .44 getting the boot otherwise!

I have a SBH Bisley hunter and use it with irons only out to 40-50 yards which is where I see deer 99% of th time. I had a red dot on it at one time but I ended up moving it to my 22/45. Irons all the way!

    Glock 29

I carry my G29SF in a Smartcarry (summertime) or a Crossbreed Supertuck (any other season). There is no better CCW piece, for me, at least. I handload / reload which means I can practice a LOT with it... I can use it for paper, armadillos with light loads or stand hunting deer (in a pinch)...
