    1911 magazine question

I've noticed several "things" while shooting the gun "dirty". Easy way to tell what's impacting what. Feed ramp "marks" clearly below where the bullet nose hits the ramp to feed on this reliable feeding 1911. I don't recall seeing those before, but could have missed them. In addition, while...

    Series 80

For anyone with a series 80 1911 or "knowledge" of :) , do you notice the hammer touching or pressing down on the FP plunger as the slide moves back? Meaning, if you were to turn the gun upside down and slowly rack the slide, do you see the hammer bearing down on the plunger a bit? I had...

    1911 Drop in Barrel

A little advice on a drop in bbl would be welcome. As warned, the bbl is not completely drop in on this 5" stainless Storm Lake ACP. It does go in the series 80 with a loose slide to frame fit. But: Racking the slide slowly, it will "hang up" about a 1/4" and stop. A good nudge will...

    1911 Bbl

Just recently, the last 200 rounds in my 45 ACP Colt bbl I've noticed a elongated raised portion on the fired brass, one side. Looking at bbl chamber I now see a depression in the chamber with the same shape. If I described it clearly, any ideas on the cause and/or remedy? Loads are...

    Broken gun thoughts

Just had to shoot a bit at lunch today, good day for shooting, not so good for my Colt 1911. Two "things" happened, that I assume are not related. If so, the odds are astronomical and I'm buying a lotto ticket today. :) After a hundred rounds or so, I find that the firing pin is "stuck"...

    Case splitting

Would you expect noticable recoil differences when shooting reloaded 45 ACP and some of the cases are split? Not split down the entire length of the case, but 1/16", 1/8", etc? Just wondering as I'm trying different primers and plated bullets. I don't recall this issue with lead bullets...

    1911 dust cover crack

Opinions on dust cover cracks: I have a 1/4" "hair line" crack on a 5" steel Colt 1911. It has about 30,000 rounds and it's the main shooting gun. I'll take it to a gunsmith in town just to make sure it's a crack, but it looks like it. Is this something that will continue to crack, i.e...

    Bullet pullers

Anyone have experience with the bullet pullers that screw into a single stage press? I believe Hornady sells one. Easier to use than the kinetic type, worth buying, etc? This would be for pistol calibers, 45 (big surprise), in particular. Thanks

    Plunger Tube

I have a loose plunger tube on my 1911 which has been loose quite a while, but held tight enough by the grips apparently. Is it possible to clean out the stacked area, use red loctite and hold, or am I just buying time until a new one? Or better to just buy a new one and have it installed...

    Replacing parts on the 1911

1911 external Hi, On the new 1911's coming out, do you need special tools to replace or is it just a drift pin and most can do it? Just wondering whether it's a gunsmith visit, like replacing front sights, ejector, plunger tube, etc or any 'dummy' can do it? Thanks
