Bear Attack in Canada Last Week Settle Guns vs Spray

We just got back from the White Mountains camping and hiking for 5 weeks. We always carry bear spray and I carry a 686+ with Buffalo Bore bullets. I'll practice for a month or so before we go. We've come upon females with cubs several times and they run away. -mike

    Finally bought a chronograph

After more than 40 years handloading, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX Bluetooth Chronograph. I can't wait to see what velocity my loads really are at and how much deviation there is between shots. -mike

Reloading bottleneck cases - am I doing something wrong all along?

I also vote for the expander going through the case. I use a case neck brush with a little case lube on it before sizing the cases (243 and 7mm mag). -mike

    7mm primers

With my Remington 700 in 7 mag I found CCI 250 primers with IMR 4831 and 140ish gr BT gives me 3 shot groups under an inch at 100 yards. I just bought a chronograph so I can check the speed of the bullets. -mike

    Boston Mass. Gun Laws

Natick isn't bad. AFAIK green town. On the tracks from Boston so a lot of commuters live there and there are garden apartments within walking distance from the train station. -mike

A good forum to join that has a lot of gun info about New England and MA is https://www.northeastshooters.com/ If you are moving here, one of the forum threads gives you an idea of which towns to avoid living in and which are gun friendly. -mike

My most accurate loads are IMR 4831 for the 7mm Rem mag with a 145 gr SPT (Rem 700 rifle) and IMR 4064 for the .243 win with an 85 gr BT (Sako Finwolf rifle). -mike

    third powder for .243

My favorite powder for the 243 is IMR4064. I use it with Speer 85 gr BT and CCI 200 primers. It is the most accurate load in my Sako. -mike

    Bear Gun, short barrel, video!

My wife and i are camping and hiking in bear country right now in the White Mountains. We carry bear spray and if for some reason that doesn't work then my 686+ should help some. I use Buffalo Bore loads. As far as practicing, I've been reloading and shooting the 357 for 45 years. Many years ago...

Developing .243 varmint load - which way to turn?

When I varmint hunted with my 243 Sako, the most accurate handload I found was using IMR4064 and 80 gr spritzer or 85 gr boat tail. I also played around with IMR3031 and IMR 4831. -mike

When we hike in the White Mountains in NH, I always carry a S&W 45 Shield with Buffalo Bore bullets. We've kicked up a few black bear and all we've seen are their back ends. -mike EDIT: We also carry bear spray!
