    1911 Magazine

I like the Wilson 47D. Its a stainless mag with a polymer follower and base pad. I have one 7 rounder but all the rest I can find are 8 rounders.

How do I get rid of old guns?

Make an artwork out of them. Get a stick welder and start tacking them together in some sort of abstract way. You could sell it to the Guggenheim Museum and be rich.

    Colt Commander: LW or Steel?

I went and checked out the Colt and it was just as described on the Colt webpage: It was all carbon steel with a flat steel MSH. The trigger felt suprisingly crisp. Beautiful bluing job. $795 Seemed like a pretty good deal.....;)

    Colt Commander: LW or Steel?

Thanks for all the great replies! It starting to sound like you can't go wrong either way, LW or steel. I doubt I will be carrying this one unless its a dire situation or otherwise. In that case, I'd probably just go with my custom Gov't model with the CMDr as a backup in some sort of shoulder...

    Colt Commander: LW or Steel?

Well, well, well,... It seems my prior info was wrong. The CA Approved list shows a carbon steel Commander as OK. The approved model number 04691 is shown on the Colt's webpage as indeed carbon steel, and that is the model number the seller says he has.... The plot thickens.

    Colt Commander: LW or Steel?

I would jump on a 1991 Commander in a second. Finding one though is another story. Glad yours is working great. -T

    Colt Commander: LW or Steel?

I finally tracked down a NIB Commander in California. Its within driving distance of me, but alas, it is a Lightweight model. I really prefer blued steel but don't think the blued steel Commander is even on the CA Approved list. So if I want one I will have to track down a used one...

    My 1911 shoots low.

My Springfield used to do that too. So I painted a white dot on the front sight and would center the dot on the target and problem solved, kind of like what Wastemore was recommending. Now I have new sights though and it doesn't need a white dot.

    iran war

I wonder how far America will go to win a war against Iran. My guess would be just a big show of force at the beginning and then a long drawn out trickle of smaller engagements so that we don't: 1. destroy too many resources we will later need 2. kill too many civilians 3. upset the rest...

Lead Poisoning....this is not good news

I heard on a science radio program that people that chew their fingernails have high lead levels. It stated that lead accumulates in the fingernails and people that chew their nails ingest more lead. It did not state the relative impact to one's lead score though.

    best barrel??????HELP

You might get the accuracy increase you are looking for by handloading your ammo or by shooting Federal Gold Medal Match loads. My 10fp likes the 175gr Fed GMM much better then the 168gr. Its pricey but still cheaper than a new barrel.

    Latest youth violence unnerves France

I guess I see this as more of a SHTF type thread than an RKBA thread or a bash France thread. These types of things happen and there just might not be a citizen with a CCW there to step up. It would be hard to take on the hooligans by yourself without some sort of serious gumption, training...

    I don't BELIEVE this @#$% judge!!!

I don't believe justice is revenge. Justice is balancing fouls against society. The foul must be balanced with the correct punishment. In this case, society desrves to be totally rid of someone who knowingly and willfully commits a repeated heinous crime against one of our most vulnerable and...

Gun forum posts used against you?

Good thing everything I ever posted on the 'net was pure fiction. ;) You all are assuming everything on the 'net is written as non-fiction. Maybe its just a creative writting excercise. For all I know all you guys are just a 'personna' anyway, except for the guys trying to make money...

    Latest youth violence unnerves France

Well, to me, without the RKBA, the problem becomes 'what do you use to fight with instead of a gun?' I'm in much the same predicament as those poor French bastrds. I dont have a CA CCW permit, and sometimes ride the public transit lightrail. Believe me there are thugs full of drugs on there...

    Latest youth violence unnerves France

I'm left wondering what I would do if on that train. First of all, look for a weapon. Bare fists don't go too far against multiple assailants. I think maybe a handrail could be pried off, a fire extinguisher, some electrical wiring (garrotte), the food car might have a broomstick and a...

    SA-specific 1911 questions

I don't know about all Springfields but mine did have a small fillet in the barrel bed that kept my new match barrel from seating properly. The smith milled it out with the relief cut you mention and all is fine now. I'm still wondering what tool he used to get in there and relieve that extra...

    MythBusters: Bullets Fired Straight Up

Not only is the relative velocity of the bullet travelling normal to your point on the earth's surface, the atmosphere is also moving in rotation around the earth's axis. The velocity of the atmosphere though is not constant across its thickness and its decrease is nonlinear due to the variation...

    Do-it-all barrel

I do everything with my 21" rifle sight barrel. Birds, clays, slugs, buckshot, home defense. I could live with a modified choke only, but full and improved are just so darned handy.
