Hoppe's#9 vs pitted bore, bore is winning.

I have happily used Hoppe's#9 over 30 years. I purchased a Remington model 14 in rough shape as a project. After cleaning the bore pretty well with brushes, patches and my trusty #9, I left the bore wet with #9 and propped it in the corner, tissue in the action, to soak a couple days...

    Attrition

Fire, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes. Theft, leaky roofs, neglect, gov confiscation and boating accidents. Out of perhaps 100,000 of a particular model firearm made, a certain number disappear each year. Do any of the learned minds here have an idea of percentages? Obviously when an object...

Out of state gunshow rifle purchase

I have never tried to do a gunshow out of state purchase before. But I may this weekend in WA. I know, longguns only. I believe I would need to do a background check as the buyer. I can live with that for the right firearm. But what is the procedure if the perfect rifle is being sold by a...

    Remington model 14 stiff action

I recently obtained a Remington 14 in .30rem. Even after cleaning all the old gunk out and de-rusting and filing smooth the back 6" of the magazine tube, the action is very stiff. Not all the way, just the last 1/4", then there is a click, and I can bring the slide forward. Working the action...

.22lr 'range pick-up' for sale at gunshow

Yes, the crisis has hit a new low. While looking at brass I saw that the vendor had baggies of 100 range pick up loaded .22 for sale. Things must be pretty bad in Puyallup, WA when folks can sell a bag of duds.

    Magtech primers

At $15/1000 less than major brands, I bought a brick to try. Does anyone have any experience using this brand?

    see-through mounts

I like the idea, but what will I be giving up in return. Would most appreciate input from folks who have used them..

    Hostage shooting round count

I would prefer this thread not to get locked due to discussing/second guessing tactics and training. 8 shots were fired by the officer. I thought that NY law had a limit of 7 rounds in the mag, or has that been changed for LEO?

    May 4 gunshow report

Went to the show in Joplin MO today. Busy but not anything like a couple months ago in DFW. Lots of lookers and not much money changing hands. AR-15's as low as $875, eight of them on the table, still there 2 hours later. .22 lr $50-75 for a bulk pack and not many of those. Primers...

    CT laws and NRA instructors

Noticed in a quick read of the CT laws that NRA instructors are mentioned for giving the training. Nice of them to respect the NRA. (sarcasm)

    Gun safes

I see a lot of threads about a person's guns being 'responsibly locked in a safe to keep from criminals". IMO this attitude is giving a point to the antis, and could lead to a British style law, where the police inspect the secure storage area before you are allowed a firearm. I can understand...

TX to CA with a revolver

Going to be working in CA in a few weeks. I am used to TX gun laws. What do I have to do to to take a plain Jane 6-shot .38 special revolver for hotel and late nite construction site in CA? Also I am restoring a 5-shot semi auto rifle while bored in the hotel rooms. Can I take this also, and...
