    Mega Thread of Batoning Wisdom

Cold Steel doesn't make knives - they sell knifes made for them - they make money lots of it. I have a few Cold Steel knifes and I like them they are the sharpest knifes from the factory. But they are made to cut and slice not chop or pry. If you want to batton buy a Busse or Swamp rat or...

I seem to have lost my Boy Scout knife :(

I've had one of these eddie bauer boy scout knifes since 97. I mainly use the blade to remove the seal on wine bottles but it is still razor sharp. It is made by Richartz and the blade reads Rostfrei stainless soligen Germany. I've packed it many times in my lugagge so I would have a...

    Fixed Blade Recommendations

I picked up a CRKT Ultima 7" a few months back because it was on sale. The more I handle it the more I like it. Its thinner on top and at the edge to reduce weight and the handle it great - it does seem to fit the hand very well (they advertise that point for the Ultima models). The...

    Your EDC?

I recently started carrying a spyderco endura lwt. I wear dress slacks to work and it being thinner & lighter works well. Also the longer length keeps it in my pocket better when I'm digging for change - when I carried a shorter folder like a CRKT BULL which I really like it could tend to...

    winchester 1300 Price/value

I bought one used but like nib with original box, lock, brochures, stc. I think in 2007 or 2008 for $250 in California where verything gun related costs more. OH, it was the youth model also maybe only a 21 inch barrel? For the wife.

what do you think of the push dagger?

I would never want to get in a knife fight. I think of having a knife for self defense like this: You're hiking along and all of a sudden something jumps on your back. You hit the ground and roll around trying to grab your knife. When you do you punch and slash until whatever is on...

    Survival System

Fiskers makes some nice lightweight saws for hiking I like this one (i hope the picture loaded). It slides into the handle and has a clip for hangling on your pack. I bought the older model without clip and softgrip on clearance at OSH hardware for under $10 to put in a BOB. They have...

    Some say a .380 isn;t enough

Some people (lots actually) say a .380 isn'y a large enough caliber. I am attaching a link to the ElPasoTimes.com that tells how a retired mexican police officer killed 3 out of 4 home invasion guys with his .380. And they had vests and an AK. Here's the link...

Question about some Cold Steel knives

I have a few cold steel knifes - one thing they know how to do is make a SHARP knife. The older cold steel blades were made by Camillus.

Multiple guns on the shooting bench, not good?

I usually only keep 1 gun out on the bench at a time but, when I have 2 of the same gun then I may have them both on the bench ... same caliber, same mag's one is blue & one is stainless. No chance of mixup and no reason not to have them both out. Still I say no more rules ... I hate...

    My Home Was Burglarized

A lot of times burglaries are done by "friends of friends" these are people that either you don't know or have met briefly. They "hear" you are away and they take advantage of the situation. It could be a teenage friend of one of your adult friends children. This sounds like an amateur...

    .38 Special v. .22WMR

I think I remember reading something in a gun magazine column (maybe Bart Skeltons?) about a Bill Jordan demonstration when he was demonstrating his fast draw and pulled a .22 snubbie with his left hand. I think the comparison is a light .22 magnum vs. a .38 special in the older loads like...

    Ammo Storage Safety?

When I was around 10 or 11 (1960's) I attended an NRA Hunters saftey class in the basement of a local midlle school. They cooked off some ammo with bunson burners - yep the same ones they used in science class. They cooked off 12 gauge shells, .22 lr & some other rounds all they coverred...

    .380 quandary

COlt Gov't .380 I think its the perfect size (for me) Its not too small to grip and the barrel is not too short. Light recoil, accurate and never a jam. FTF, or hickup of any type.
