    Hi-Power Sights

I have a circa 1960 Hi-power. Belgium made, internal extractor. Years ago I had a set of MMC adjustable sights installed. Today at the range, the front sight departed for parts unknown. Can any recommend a reputable gunsmith that I might ship the stripped slide to for the installation of a...

    Headstamp question

I picked up a bucket of once fired 9mm cases. While most were commercial, there were quite a few military that I would like to identify. The head stamp has a "9" a date that ranges from 42 to 45 and what looks like "MM" of course it would be "WW". Did Winchester-Western make 9mm ammo during...

    Luger question

Trying to find out more about a Luger that I have had for quite some time. It is a DWM 1920. I understand most of these were .30 Luger caliber. Mine is 9mm (barrel marked 8.82) The safety is marked "Gesichert". It has a three digit serial number 4XX. Same number or last two digits marked on...

    X-ring bullet trap

Years ago I acquired a cintrifugal bullet trap made by the X-Ring Bullet Trap Company of Pekin, Illinois. It is tripod mounted and must weigh at least 75 pounds. Seems that this company is long out of business. I've shot a bunch of .22's into it but was wondering if it is suitable for...

    surplus bullets

I've been handloading for 40+ years so always have been on the lookout for a deal. About 15 years ago a friends friends father died and left a bunch of guns and reloading equipment that I picked up real cheap. Among the lot was over 300 pounds of cast, unsized bullets in various calibers. The...

    Carolina on my mind

34 years ago I was transferred to the Chicago area. When I retire next year I want to get out of this God forsaken, anti gun, state as soon as possible. I plan to move back to North Carolina. Next month we are spending a week down there looking at three areas, Raleigh/Durham/Cary, Southport...

    NFA question

An acquaintance asked me to come over and evaluate / appraise a group of firearms that he just inherited from his late father. Everything was going fine until I opened a case with a Thompson Model 1927 A1, serial number 10XXX F. The barrel is 12" long with a Thompson marked compensator...

    twist vs velocity

Just wondering.. I have two AR's. One has a 1 in 12 twist the orher 1 in 8. I understand the reason for the faster twist is to stabilize heaver bullets. But all things being equal, barrel length, etc. would the rate of twist have any effect on velosity?

    H&k ump

I had the opportunity to fire a fully auto version of this one in .45 ACP this past weekend. I found it had much less barrel rise than the last M-1921 Thompson I fired. Is there a civilian version available? In a semi mode how would it compare to something like the Storm carbine?

Just returned from a trip to Germany. I went over to Salzburg Austria and found a gun shop. They had a really nice engraved Kreghoff Drilling 16 ga over 7mm X 65mm for 3,500 euros. A good deal?

    1100 fair price

I got off an order today for a new S&W 20 guage side by side. I now need to make some room in my safe plus defray some of the cost. What I plan to sell is a left handed Remington 1100 that I bought 30 years ago and used very little. It has the following barrels: 30" full, 28" mod, 26" with...

I'm looking for a price range here. Old guy (older than me) wants to sell a 1911 that was made in 1912. Serial number is 39XX. Says is is in "really nice shape". I want to make a fair offer, but really don't know what price range I should be looking at. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    S&W identification

When my uncle passed away I inherited a handgun that had been his father's. His father had been a New York police detective very early in the 20th century. The handgun is a top break .32 short. Nickel finish (mostly gone). Appears to be double action only. Serial number is 45310. I've...

As a hunter, gun collector, and member of the Illinois Saint Andrew Society, I have been asked to put on a presentation in November in commeration of Veteran's Day for the Scottish History Club discussing the evolution of firearms used by the U.S. army from the early 1800's to date. I have...

    Quick M-N question

Just picked up a N-M 91-30 to fill out my collection of WW-II rifles. In the included kit there was a jag that fits on the cleaning rod, a blued cylinder that I assume is a muzzle protector. A firing pin protrusion guage with an oblong opening on one end that resembles a 1911 bushing wrench, a...

    .275 Rigby brass

Is anyone aware of a source of brass with this headstamp? I know it's the same as 7 X 57 Mauser, but my custom Mauser is marked in this caliber and I'd like to load up some matching ammo.

    .17 Remington

Just bought my 25th or 26th set of dies, this one in .17 Remington. I figured I need to try this caliber due to the dammage a .223 did to a coyote last week. Besides needing a new powder funnel (on order from Midway) is there any other thing out of the ordinary I need to know about loading...
