    Hunting die specialties

Isn't that the guy who was one of the founders of RCBS?

    Dear Hodgdon,

Sounds to me like the powder was working just as intended! Why quit making it when obviously they had the formula down just right?

    loading for a 30-30 lever

Yes of course you can shoot out the barrel of a 30-30. Many people in the past have done so. It used to be somewhat common to rebarrel a shot out 30-30 with a 35-30-30 barrel and shoot heavier bullets. Look up the 35-30-30 and you will see what I am talking about.

    Load data

I use CFE 223 powder to load 30-30 rounds and it works very well for me. Hornady has load data and so does hodgden for 150 grain and 170 grain bullets.

    Want to start annealing brass

Want to start annealing brass I have been reloading for a long time, but I have never annealed my brass. I have a decent amount of fired brass for 223, 30-30, 270 Win, and 7.7x58 Japanese. The 223 brass has been loaded and reloaded several times. I want to start annealing to get more...

Calling all 38 special and 357 mag loaders

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The High Road, nor the staff of THR assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information. I load on a Dillon XL650...

Newbie question - Re- resizing already loaded cartridges

    Thanks, I appreciate the explanation.

    Leaving Lanolin On Finished Rounds

The experts at Dillon Precision say it is not necessary, but highly recommended to lube the cases for 9 mm even when using carbide dies AND to tumble the lube off the finished rounds for a few minutes in corn cob media. They say it helps make the equipment run more smoothly if the cases are...

    Thoughts on the LabRadar

I love my LabRadar. Wonder why I had waited as long as I did to buy one. Would definitely buy again. I will say that when I read that there is a learning curve to learning to use it, I thought that could not be true, or at least not that complicated because in the videos it looks so easy to use...

Newbie question - Re- resizing already loaded cartridges

Wait, why can't you just take out the whole decapping assembly from the sizing die, and then just run the completed rounds up into the die? Is the concern that the bullets themselves will be deformed, dislodged, swaged? Is there something else I am missing? I loaded a few hundred rounds of...

    Stiff locking rings

D i l l o n Dillon die lock rings are the only ones I use. I have dies from RCBS, Lyman, Forster, Whidden, Lee, and of course Dillon and I have replaced all of the non-Dillon die lock rings with Dillon lock rings.

H335 and 77 Grain Sierra Match King for 223

How do you get the I-4064 into the 223 case? I have some spare I-3031 and I wanted to use that in my 223 loads, but I am afraid of powder bridging across the top of the cases and other powder-going-everywhere-but-into-the-case type mishaps. When I load 4064 for my .30+ caliber loads I use the...

    Am I being too picky?

I have always trimmed to 1.740 because I hate trimming and the idea was to extend the interval (number of times reloaded and fired) before I'd have to trim again. I use the Dillon trimmer motor and dies on the Dillon press, so I can do a bunch at once, but still prefer not to have to do it.

    Worst Reloading die brand?

I change out the lock rings on all of my dies to use Dillon lock rings. Can't stand all those other kinds of rings, some of which can't be wrench-tightened, some of which have little allen locking screws +/- pieces of lead shot, etc. Some people say the locking ring is supposed to make sure...

Labradar worth the money difference over standard chrno?

Mine arrived today from MidwayUSA, along with the table-top tripod and a case. I will open it all up this weekend and maybe try it on Sunday at the range. I always wanted a chronograph but the pain-in-the-butt factor for setting it up and the seemingly unavoidable target practice with the...

    Whidden Dies

Regarding soot, load pressure, and the use of custom dies: First, load pressure is partially dependent on the case sealing against the chamber walls during firing. I hope we can all agree on that. Don't worry about soot? Why not? For soot to appear on the outside neck of the cartridge, the...

    Whidden Dies

Great company to deal with, great dies to work with! I have a set of Whidden custom made dies for a 7.7x58 Japanese rifle. They are outstanding people to deal with, great communication, high quality dies. They say it takes about 12-16 weeks once they receive your fired-brass. When I got my...

    StaBALL 6.5

I'm presuming that I can rely on their online load data from Hodgdon for the 270 loading with StaBALL? Speer's online load data does not have anything for StaBALL in 270, not a big surprise. I also have some Shooter's World SW4350, (Lovex S070) to try for 270 Win, Separate topic, so I will...

    StaBALL 6.5

Thanks to Gtscotty and Fine Figure Man for more info. Well, I always say that if I am wrong or misunderstand something, I am old enough and man enough to admit it, so here I go: I was looking at the Hodgdon data for 270 Win for StaBALL 6.5 and the 4350's and others such as H4831 and I-4064...
