1851 looks like your brass did tarnish on your flask. When they are cleaned after manufacture a thin coat of clear varnish is put over it so it keeps it shine for a short period of time. As suggested earlier clean and polish it with a metal cleaner from time to time. You could apply a thin layer...

    BP noob, and NAA Companion

I own a couple of NAA and Freedom Arms black powder revolvers. They are a hoot to shoot and even have the belt buckle mount but would never consider carry for self protection unless I had no other choice. I realize that any gun is better than none but that would really press the theory.. Good...

    Tell me your Armscorp experience

I also own a Taurus 85. I prefer the Rock Island. RIA also have a lifetime warranty. Neither is going to cost a fortune. perhaps borrow from a friend and try for yourself.

    Tell me your Armscorp experience

I have had no problems with the revolver. Shot well out of the box until now. A few machine marks when I open the cylinder but I never smoothed them out. It comes with an extra set of grips (rubber type) but I left the wooden checkered grips on because they look nicer to me. A great gun for less...

    Remington 1863 Carbine

I have always wanted a black powder revolving carbine but haven't acquired one yet. i do have a Rossi 45/410 caliber carbine and very much enjoy shooting it so imagine the black powder version would be much more fun.

    Tell me your Armscorp experience

I own several of their guns. Never had a problem, Quality is good. Yes you can find better but not for the money. Also keep in mind that the Philippines was part of the United States until 1947 and there are many fine firearms manufactures there. I think that Rock Island/Armscorp is the best of...

    NAA Companion revolver aftermarket nipples

I live in Valencia County, south of Albuquerque along the Rio Grande. An exciting place where we watch tumble weeds blow into the river and for real fun in the summer gather to watch the ground crack.

Good and bad things about any place one lives. I have thought of spending my retirement years in other places but when I research the firearms laws especially for foreigners I have yet to find a suitable location. Guess I will just stay where I am.

1861, I was wondering how things were progressing for you and then saw your post. Good that you have had the chance to shoot again. Know that you are taking a chance and do hope you don't end up spending a night in jail because of it. Sure makes me grateful for where I happen to live. Good luck...

Massive chain fire in 1851 Navy. Suggestions?

If it were me and I had a chain fire of that magnitude, I would not waste any time or effort on finding the cause. Safety issues. Get a different gun.

Congratulations on firing your revolver. Now you are hooked on cap and ball for life. As you discovered there is very little recoil with black powder, 44 cal not much more than the 36. Accuracy will come with practice. The burned sulfur smell is distinct bun not that unpleasant. Again welcome to...

My early Christmas presents to my self. Beware long story.

Just like the Bradford Plates and Danbury Mint collectables the Firearm special series are pretty but terrible investments.

1861, I am so sorry that after all you have gone thru to find out you can not use the ranges near to where you live. I can't understand the thinking of people that believe black powder is louder than smokeless powder. I think it is just the opposite except for 22 rimfire. When I was a soldier...

Yes you can slice the wads in half if they are thick enough. Still an expensive way to go. You can make your own wads and coat them with a lube. Cheaper route to go. If I were in your position I would make my own lube using beeswax and olive oil and put up with the mess.

I have found the the least messy option is the lubed wad (wonder wad), it is not the cheapest. I make and use a mixture of beeswax, lard and vegetable or olive oil 50/50 and add additional oil during the cooler winter months. It is not too messy. All firearm projectiles need some lube, black...
