I have the 125 lee and cast bullets with it - they shoot OK out of the revolver if you don't push them too hard....shoot great out of the rifle but gas checks are needed if you lean on them at all- even with wheel weight hard cast-
I have posted this pic before....that is a whitetail shot at 40 yards with. FTX out of a 500S&W.....through the heart.... He did make it to the edge of the field.....I would say the pic explains the bullet performance-
Quail are quick little darters- a shorter action like a SxS is faster to action and typically swings better on quail- I have taken them with 410 28 20 and 12 gauge - open chokes will work the best-
Don't worry about a scratch or a ding....use the gun and enjoy it-
A word of caution- quail are...
I load mine with 350 gr bullets to medium 45-70 levels-
It's a short heavy rifle and shoots very well-
I have taken several whitetails with it- works wonderful+
Ah ..nope... The 8mm Mag kicks the crap out of the 7mm's! ....I load, shoot and hunt with the 8mm mag- have taken elk, deer and bear with it-
I throws a 200 gr bullet at 3150 fps and is mean on BOTH ends- but 9f you can manage the recoil it 9s a super great cartridge-

I think its about the difference between Hunters and Rifleman -
To Hunters the implement is a tool for the passion of hunting
To Rifleman the implement is the passion used in shooting and hunting
I find that is much easier to slide back to the tight barrel if needed on a longer shot than try and swap barrels with a safety selector on a single trigger gun.....
Marlins are unattractive leverguns anyway....so a scope doesn't hurt the looks all that much anyway.....

If it makes you hit what you are aiming at then put a scope on it!!!!! If you can't...
I have a sporterized carbine model with an 18 barrel that has a gain twist- shoots amazing with longer bullets.....small clovers at 100 yards-
Love the sweede....thumbs up from me.
Both are important - but it depends on the application -
Never saw a whitetail that could tell the difference of 200 fps......
If your stretching a cartridge out past 600yrds and need to wring out all a cartridge will give you....well you need to lean on it- .....but still need to be able to...
