Are high-end O/U shotguns worth the price?

I shoot trap with a Winchester SXP Defender wearing a 28" barrel (barrel minimum length restriction at the club is 22", I think, or was it 24"? It's blurry right now). It is difficult to find a gun less appropriate or more out of place at the club. Maybe I did for a short time with a Baïkal...

Is my Man Card in Jeopardy? .375 H&H Mag is too much for me

Practice and a good recoil pad go a long way together. While not very recoil sensitive, I don't think someone who is less of a man. What makes a real man is above the shoulders, and not at shoulder height, so I was taught.

Lot to Lot Variability With Factory Centerfire Ammo?

Yes, centerfire ammunition also varies, but a lot less than rimfire in my experience. Premium ammunition varies less than affordable options in both instances. I am curious to read other experiences, good thread idea.

Mossberg 590 pattern testing, from 00 buckshot to #2 birdshot

I can't wait to see the patterns. It is complicated (not really a place to do it legally around here, 7.5 is the biggest we are allowed at the club, 22" barrel minimum required) for me to do this kind of testing.

Well, heck. Here we go again!

Nice catch! I look forward to your pictures and range report. Grade II wood and the Browning blue in a vastly available caliber can't be wrong. If my memory doesn't play tricks on me, these rifles shoot well, around 1 MOA. Never owned one myself, but a friend of my father has one in .270...

Ruger M77 Hawkeye - QQ Major issues

I own one Ruger and agree with OP, finish could be improved. The difference is I knew I was buying cheap (.223/5.56 RAR Predator). It strikes primers lightly, many failures to fire, especially but not exclusively with low cost ammunition. Trigger could be improved, it would not hurt. Looking...

Why I Will Never Buy Another Winchester

Sad story. It reminds me to go try anything new ASAP to check function. Many items are dead on arrival, especially in electronics. I am lucky it never happened to me with a firearm. Well, my used Baïkal side by side busted after two or three cases of trap, but it was used, maby a little...

    Lever Action .22

The first firearm I shot was a Winchester 9422 thirty-eight years ago. My father owns it and the rifle still looks great, used, not abused. It is a great rifle, I enjoyed shooting it before he put a scope on it. Of all the Henry line, it is the single shot rifles I prefer. Never shot any...

Need opinions on a varmint rifle

Get the CZ and enjoy shooting the rifle. The trigger is a dream on mine (30-06 Black Edition), and it shoots. Excellent weapon to shoot paper targets, the weight soaks up the recoil (and the muzzle brake on mine is also helping in this way). A tad too heavy to carry all day. Treestand...

One Load for the One Rifle Philosophy

I don't reload. I would choose a 180 gr. soft point in 30-06 and be confident that it would be sufficient for hunting or defense against dangerous living creatures here in peaceful eastern Canada. Some other options, less expensive, could be considered if accurate in a given rifle. At a...

One Load for the One Rifle Philosophy

I like plinking with a 30-06. Is it wrong? I feel guilty now. :)

    CZ MTR?

I bought the Varmint and if I could change that, I would have brought the MTR. After a while at the bench, my wrist fatigues and I believe the MTR would have been a better choice because the At-One did not exist. Now, I look at the At-One sometimes. Don't get me wrong, the Varmint is...

243 on Mule deer too light?

I prefer more magnification than 4x to achieve perfect shot placement at 300 yards.

    Just wondering about the price....

Nice group! I know my shotgun does not shoot like yours. Congratulations on your winning at the auction.

    Say it ain't so

Certainly. These new shooters often tried .223 before it instead of 12 gauge pump with hunting loads like it might have been the case years earlier. Recoil is not Ebola, but it has to be learned before being enjoyed.

    Enlarging the fleet

Local classifieds would be a good place to start. It might seem counterintuitive, but I rather suggest a brand new already excellent rifle unless you are able to do the work yourself, it might be less expensive in the end and closer to what you really want. Sako rifles look great and are said...

Do you actually use your “everything rifle”?

I consider my hunting rifle to be my Browning BAR in .270 Winchester and it is the one I use for hunting when rifle is allowed. I think it's specifically a hunting rifle, not a generalist. My other rifles eligible for hunting are a Thompson Center Encore, a CZ 557 and a Bettinsoli Express, all...

Question for experienced Mossberg 500/590 owners

I would naturally tend to agree, but I question myself why, since it doesn't seem to affect usage. If it does, let's say by making it more difficult to clean, then it is entirely different ; I would fear the plastic to adhere more if the bore is not shiny polished.

Question for experienced Mossberg 500/590 owners

Don't own Mossberg, can't help with this, but reading the thread brings to my mind this question: does shooting eventually polish the bore? My Winchester is chrome lined, it's shiny polished and it was like that from day one (both 18" and 28" barrels).

    Ruger Guide Gun 30-06

Beautiful rifle. Are the sights usable when the rifle doesn't have a scope on? The stock made mine close to useless on the CZ I bought.
