Load advice for .357 Mag 110gr Hornady XTP

Forget the H110 and 296. The 110's are too light for it to work correctly. I would look to HS-6 and BE86 out of what you have. I stick 125 gr and up personly in the 357. Thanks, Mark in GA

Brian Pearce article on the 40 S&W

I saw a Brian Pearce article some time in the last few months and cannot remember where I saw it. Handloader magazine maybe. Anyone remember seeing it and know where I can find it? Thanks, Mark in GA

    Favorite Deer Hunting Side Arm

Never leave my 4" 629 at home. Keep it loaded with medium loads (240 SWC or 250 WFN at 1050 FPS). Mark in GA

Burris, Redfield or Leupold. Which one?

Maybe the Leupold is assembled here still. I think I read somewhere about their lenses and internals being of china origin now on the lower end of their product line. I hope I'm wrong, because I would much rather Leupold keep EVERYTHING here. If they are still USA made and USA parts that...

RCBS Pro 2000 Owners: Why not the less expensive Hornady LNL AP?

I have been using a Pro 2000 for around 10 years. This may sound crazy to some, but I got rid of my single stage and a turret press and do everything with the Pro 2000. I have the manual index and would not want the auto index. The manual index gives me super flexibility. Have had an auto...

Burris, Redfield or Leupold. Which one?

One other thing. I am pretty sure the lower end Leupolds (nor the Redfields) like you are looking at are no longer made in the US, so don't expect buying Leupold to give you that advantage. Mark in GA

Burris, Redfield or Leupold. Which one?

I have had 4 various models of the Fullfield II as well as a few Leupolds. I have had nothing but great service out of them. Very clear. For the money the Burris can't be beat. On top of that, they are built very stout/tough. For your slug gun application the Fullfield II would be great...

Best powders for 357 Mag (170-180gr) 10-13" barrel

With heavies in 357 (ie 170 to 185 grs) I always had the best luck with H-110. The extra resistance provided by the heavy for caliber bullets always makes H-110 perform very consistently. Mark in GA

    Ruger 44mag

To Craig , Now that is a fine Sixgun!!!! Love those case-colors! If didn't live on the humid salty coast, mine would look like that. I have to make do with stainless for practical reasons. I'm Jealous, Mark in GA

    Ruger 44mag

Oh, and on the red hawks, have had a few of those too. The Super Redhawk has the most comfortable grip, but it is too heavy for any practical use for me. If it can't be carried in a hip holster it gets left in the truck and that's no good. Had a 5.5" regular Redhawk for a while it it was...

    Ruger 44mag

I have had both, super Blackhawks and bisley Blackhawks. If full power loads are on the menu, the Bisley gets the job done with much more comfort. Someone mentioned the square back grip on the super Blackhawks. Mine didn't have that because it was the 5.5" model. I have fired one though and...

Thoughts on loads for Bear defense from a snub?

So we are talking hot 38's for the wife, solid 357's for me both using the cast bullets and a couple cans of bear spray if I can locate some. Right? Mark in GA

Thoughts on loads for Bear defense from a snub?

So a 158 cast SWC at 1100 fps in not enough? Granted, I would feel most comfortable with my 629 and a 255 WFN cast hard at 1200, but need to keep it concealed in this case and the 629 doesn't work for that in light cloths. Mark in GA

Thoughts on loads for Bear defense from a snub?

Soon I will be taking my family (wife and 2 daughters) hiking in the mountains of NC and TN. Generally, I carry a S&W 642 as a CCW. I also have access to an all steel 640 38 +P and a 640-1 357. The odds of running into a unhappy Black Bear may be low, but I would rather be prepared just in...

Hornady SST or Sierra Gameking for whitetails

Neither! If going with a cup and core bullet, my best success and most consistent performance has been with the Flat Base Hornady Interlock Softpoint. Their boat tails can work too, but my best accuracy nearly always comes with the flat base. They seem to hold together better to me, but I...

    357 Magnum: Medium loads wanted.

I agree, this sounds like a very suitable place to use HS-6. It excels with medium loads and would quite well with cast bullets too. It's should get you the speed you want with less pressure than the faster burning powders. That being said, I could get along well with power pistol or even...
