I started off with glocks, and went to the dark side and got an XD45. Personally, i think its the perfect marriage, glocks for 9mm, and XD's for 45 :evil:

Based on my own testing, they have a nasty habit of clogging and not expanding. Its a very old design, and pretty much anything else in terms of JHP works much better. The HST's on the other hand, are excellent.

with the right grips and enough weight, full power 357 isn't a problem.

avoid the Ruger MK III, its mechanically a POS. The CZ kadet is a VERY nice 22.

I like my G34 with the 3.5 trigger. Great reset, short pull, but not heavy either.

Ruger MK III 22lr. Total piece of crap. Impossible to take apart, jammed all the time. Was fairly accurate, but thats about the only good thing about it.

I don't blame the OP for what he did given the circumstances. By giving it to the cops, you relieve yourself of any legal liability for the gun. Don't have to worry about it being stolen, or some idiot trying to fix it and fire it (and having the mother of all kabooms).

Thanks for the reminder Max. 63 years ago, the slaughter in Europe stopped. It cost the lives of 11 million+ Russian soldiers alone (not to mention the rest of the Allies) to achieve that victory.

I own a G34 (same as the G17, just a tad longer slide) and a XD 5" 45. Both shoot very similar, dissemble virtually the same, are extremely reliable and easy to use, have good accuracy, etc. The big difference (other then caliber) between the 2? The XD does has a slightly different grip...

Just do what a lot of the cops do: buy another guy in the same make and model. They let the duty gun get bashed to death, and keep the 2nd gun for house duty and range work. Personally, my g26 (which gets carried daily) shows a fair amount of slide wear in the 3 years I've been carrying it...

Well, for me personally, I want at least 10 rounds. Enough to fight off 2 or 3 attackers before I need to reload. My carry gun is a G26 with a +1 extension. So 11+1 there. Also carry a spare mag of 11 rounds, and sometimes an extra G19 mag with 15 rounds.

depends on the gun and how dirty the ammo i am running through it. My glocks only shoot jacketed ammo, so maybe 1-2 a year i detail strip the slide. My XD sees nothing but lead, so maybe every 10-15 cleanings i strip it.

get a NM permit. That way you can carry in CO, KS, MI, and FL. Those states all require you to have a permit from your home state. Here is a map to all the states you could carry in with a NM permit.

Idiot is lucky he didn't do this to me at my university. He might of gotten a mag full of HST 147gr for his trouble.
