    Firearms post-WW2

Pretty sure I’ve seen this picture before, and I think those are k98’s. Lotta cupped buttplates, which Japanese rifles dont typically have. Also even tho the pic is grainy if you zoom in enough I think you can see where the rear sling mount goes on some of them, and a takedown disc or two. The...

My Child Is Pretty Curious, Do You Lock Up Your Guns?

No matter what i do with my guns or how i choose to store them, i find that it helps if one removes the urge for a child or children to be curious. If children are not curious guns will be less apt to be coon-fingered to begin with.

    J frame holster

I have one of those^^^^ and can attest. Most of the time if I am pocket-carrying my J-frame it’s in a cheap uncle mike’s holster.

    Your 'Rodney Dangerfield' guns.

My CZ-70 gets no respect. No respect at all, I’m tellin’ ya!

    Really disappointed

I usually use oxpho and heat, with a few rounds of each until satisfied. Then oil to finish.

Help with a Smith and Wesson 686

Buy the kuhnhausen book before proceeding. It will help. With it I was able to rescue a coffee can K-frame that is now a wonderful shooter.

    Waiting Time for Suppressor Approval?

Got my approval this morning, started the process father’s day. So 6 months-ish.

    Identify This Gun Part

I had a wooden one from an auto 5 that had shrunk up enough over time that I could actually jam an extra shell in the magazine. Found out the hard way in the field! We coupled it with a spent 16ga hull jammed up in the end of the mag tube. That was several years ago-still does the job.

Field Stripping Browning Auto 5 (Original)

And sparingly! They call those friction rings for a reason. My friend Rudolph31 knows when these guns are sprung correctly, with a good friction ring and spring, and proper lubrication these guns are soft and gentle shooters. Not hard-kicking mules.

Field Stripping Browning Auto 5 (Original)

I will disassemble an auto 5/variant down to the last screw if it is new to me. I’ve done it enough that I don’t mind it. This is to check for serious wear, missing parts, and to replace all of the springs (not just the two main ones). But that’s it, unless something breaks later. Otherwise...

What would "SMG .30 Cal." have been in the Vietnam era?

Correct. My FIL was a tanker in the ‘70’s and trained on one. I think those M3’s were still rattling around even into the early ‘80’s. I just wonder if the service record notation was written by an also-non-gun guy.

What would "SMG .30 Cal." have been in the Vietnam era?

If he was a tanker then the M2 is the only logical choice. I thought maybe the M3 and somebody just misremembered the caliber, but you suggest this is written in his service record…

What would "SMG .30 Cal." have been in the Vietnam era?

Any possibility he could have been trained on non-American arms? The PPSh-41 appeared in Vietnam during that time.

What is the most recent knife you bought?

I was wandering around at a gun show today (out of my home state), and ended up bring home a passel of folding knives. The Schrade 8OT is 1967-ish time frame. It is basically a brand new knife. The Barlow is the steal. It had surface rust on the side that laid in the box. I gave $20 for...

S&W J Frame- Centennial vs Chief’s Spl. vs Bodyguard

Shrouded hammer or bobbed DAO. I’m fine either way. Current favorite is a shrouded hammer model 49.

New (to me) toy... S&W 10-8

I ended up with a DAO Model 64 that was finish-challenged (some inventory clerk went crazy w an electropencil) and was in pieces. But it cleaned up great and was mechanically excellent once put back together. No grips, tho. I’ve cycled thru 3 different grips on that gun-some rubber pachs that...

Crime guns: tools of serial home invaders

I will guess Ruby on this one. When it came to .25 caliber copycats they were more prolific than most.
