Warfarin approved to help control wild hogs.....your thoughts?

Hogs tend to hang around water quite a lot....what happens when a poisoned one urinates in the vicinity of the water? There are too many unanswered questions about the use of a chemical designed to make rats bleed out internally, to introduce it into our ecosystem. A big concern in California...

Warfarin approved to help control wild hogs.....your thoughts?

I have no doubt this poisoning thing will be battered around until most folks just get tired of arguing potential risks of it. My problems with this sort of thing is the amount of misinformation that will be spread in support of or against trying to poison a species out of existence. Just as the...

Point taken and enough said. It would please me if this thread were closed with no further debate on these issues.

    Rossi surprise

It seems unfortunate how some folks can morpf a thread to completely change the character of it and pick it apart from a dark and inappropriate angle. My friend left a rifle in a safe in my house separate from my personal guns.....for his use on the next trip down here. I hope this fact does not...

    Specialty ammo for hog hunting?

I've probably killed at least a few tons of hogs with a 223, using fmj ammo. Put it directly through the front shoulder and they go down pretty quick...if not on the spot. The size of the hog really doesn't seem to matter.

Jeeze guys....this is Texas where there are still real people living without California or Colorado laws. You can still legally walk into a gun show here and buy or trade a gun with an individual without breaking any laws. We are not legally bound to take guns to a dealer anytime we want to gift...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

I walked the area in the daylight this morning, but still didn't locate him. Within a day or so the buzzards should point him out for me.

    Strange Colt Agent (revolver) problem

I always liked the Agents, but I think I've seen more out of time or with other similar problems than the ones that were working properly. I guess if a guy is dedicated enough to do the research or find a good gunsmith that understands Colts, you can still make a good shooter out of one.....at...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

I got some reloading done, but haven't had time to get caught up with this caliber yet. I went out last night and just after dark, poked a hole in the kneeling porker. It was just like maybe he was waiting for me under a feeder when I got there. Unfortunately I lose all vision for a bit with the...

    Specialty ammo for hog hunting?

Bullet types to kill hogs is more of a marketing thing than anything else as far as I am concerned. Any reasonable caliber with a decent bullet will do the job. I can understand using a copper solid in places like the leftist coast where lead is considered as big of a threat to our country as a...

    Rossi surprise

The one I was shooting is a 16" barrel and pretty handy. I don't think I'd worry about stoning the internals unless I needed something super smooth for fast cowboy shooting or something like that. I think just working this one will smooth it out just fine as it's not bad as is.

    Rossi surprise

Wish I could help you out, but I know very little about the Rossi rifles, other than the early ones sure had a lot of problems to address before they were accurate and reliable.

    Rossi surprise

Remember that possession is nine points of the law (this has been debated in Texas courts in the past). As for the knife, it was assembled by an artisan in Solingen and the scabbard was made by a crafty old Texan...and neither person will knowingly admit to your ownership....so you might as well...

    Rossi surprise

Okay here a pic of it. Really a surprising rifle to me. I'm in no way claiming to be a crack shot with it....probably just an accident. It surprised me it shot so well with some old reload that wasn't even worked up to shoot in it.

    Rossi surprise

A buddy (Ibmikey) left a Rossi lever action in 45 Colt with me last summer, and it's just been laying in a safe since. The rifle probably hasn't had 20 rounds fired through it since new, and then just at some hanging steel targets. On a whim yesterday, I decided to go out to my range and pop off...

    Is that all it takes?

That should be a 1:60 twist, which is pretty much designed for RB's. If it were me, I would be using some tougher patch material, like pillow ticking. I've owned one of those before and a 490 ball with pillow ticking worked well out of it. I generally shot 60 grains out of it for targets out to...

700$$ Fusil? What is the catch here?

My smoothbore is a Wilson's Trade gun replica that was made up by Caywood. I shot it for years in the original configuration and on a whim decided to shorten the barrel and add a rear sight. A friend that is a great black powder gun builder made up the rear sight for me and soldered it on. It is...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

Got about 100 rds. sized and trimmed yesterday afternoon..so the process is started. Yup the kneeling guy is next on the list for nighttime hog punching. I'd like to see some more sows roaming around, but mostly boars right now. I've got some neighbors that would like some pork.
