An 1898 Colt Bisley Flat Top in .44 Special

Dakota, you might want to think about calling Alan Harton down in Houston about the gun. He may have something to add as he's a SAA guru and killer gunsmith. Were the gun mine I'd consider sending it to him first for a general going through and analysis before firing it. Realistically, that gun...

    Ruger Redhawk 357 Magnum

Varminterror, you're absolutely right about bullet drop being an issue for handgun hunting, not to mention wind drift and target movement in the time your eyes/brain say to pull the trigger and when the bullet lands. Shooting a handgun at 100-150 yards isn't out of reach for anyone of normal...

    TC Contender action job

My grandfather is beginning to have a hard time opening his early Contender frame and it's my understanding the easy open conversion is neither available nor necessarily desirable. When I look for "action job" all I see is trigger work, but does anybody do work to make the action open more...

    Reflex sight in dovetail mount

I have a Browning 1885 lo wall in 45 Colt that is great to carry, slick action, fits me well, but the iron sights limit it's hunting use- particularly in low light. Is there a mount that fits into the rear dovetail cut (standard 3/8 dovetail I believe) that will allow for the mounting of a...

A Fighter I made 5-7 years ago comes back to me

For anyone using a table saw, especially cutting small pieces like knife scales, I strongly suggest spending the time to make a crosscut sled. Here's just one example: http://www.runnerduck.com/tablesaw_sled.htm Perfect, safe 90 degree cuts and easy to modify for perfect miters (my miters were...

Sight regulation on a fixed sight .357 Mag Freedom Arms Model 97?

Have a GOOD gunsmith install a dovetail front sight. I think they can look great and would solve your problems. Check out a couple of the guns on the Bowen page (I would imagine there's someone out there who is good and who will do it for less than $200, but it's a FA...)...

Nick Ecker Says my Pathfinder was a Prototype and Not to Have Been Shipped

I remember a few years ago when I lived in Houston, Collectors Firearms took in a collection of rare and prototype Charter Arms guns. I've been spoiled. When a place like Collectors is your LGS, where do you go from there? Anyway, hope this gives you some idea that no, these haven't ever been...

Browning 1885, to scope or not

I have a very nice, excellent condition Browning 1885 Traditional Hunter in 45 Colt with nicely figured wood, factory aperture sight, brass bead front sight, and a Marbles folding rear sight. The barrel is half octagon, half round. I love the gun, but don't find myself hunting with it much...

    Contender barrel on a Bearcat

I'm going to have a Bearcat built for my 2 year old daughter. Alan Harton seems to be the go-to for Bearcats, so I'll likely go that route though I'd love to do as much of the build as I can. I love the look of octagon barrels and wondered if whoever builds it could take a tapered octagon...

    Umarex Walther PPK POI/POA problem

The sights are cast into the slide and there's no adjusting them. The gun really is unusable as is. I'd be happy to try my hand at adjusting it internally if someone has a good resource. Otherwise I may just take the thing apart and see what I can figure out.

    Umarex Walther PPK POI/POA problem

I have a Umarex PPK that shoots way high with the fixed sights. Any tricks to adjusting POI?

How do you choose between 6.5, 6.8, and 7mm?

For me there's little getting around this.

    Big bore scoped hunting revolver

Quick update, I made up my mind. Thanks for all the suggestions.I hope to have it in hand sometime next week. 44 mag Model 83, black micarta grips, 6in octagon barrel, factory trigger job and overtravel screw, some extra sights, the Aimpoint base, and a chest holster. I didn't buy the sight...

    Big bore scoped hunting revolver

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Lots of good options. I'd like a gun that I can grow into as a shooter. In no particular order 1) Redhawk, SRH- Some are extremely accurate, others just accurate. Double action matters little. Price is good, and integral scope mounts look better than screw...

    Ruger No.1 rifling...

Here's a start, but there's a ton of info just googling 25-06AI. Reloading it is the same as the standard 25-06 but you need the AI dies. Will shoot both standard and AI rounds. Has a bit of a performance gain. http://www.longrangehunting.com/articles/25-06-improved-1.php

    1911 frame ramp insert gunsmith

I saw the Innovative Custom Guns site and may go that route since he's probably got the most experience with the inserts. I haven't considered the ramped barrel approach because of the cost and because 1911Tuner doesn't seem to be a fan.

    1911 frame ramp insert gunsmith

Who is the go-to gunsmith for installation of 1911 frame ramp inserts? If I had to pick good, fast, or cheap I'll go with good and fast :D I have a Colt LW Commander XSE that's valuable enough as a shooter to put the extra money in it.
