This is generally a concern of mine as well.
One irony I'm finding is having multiple rifles in the same caliber doesn't seem to help with logistics as much as I'd hoped. In fact it might make it more difficult.
They each have have different loads, so I wind up either adjusting my dies or...
I've only traveled flown with guns once. Was home visiting relatives and my grandfather unexpectedly gave me 2 long-guns and an air-pistol.
I bought a cheapie case and a 4pk of keyed-alike padlocks.
No issues at all. Simply declared the case at the counter and TSA examined the contents. I...
I'm going to say 260 Remington or 7mm-08 Remington.
I personally used a 270 WSM last year and will again this year. Just because I haven't found a factory 260 Remington load that shoots well in my Remington 700 titanium.
I think the 260 Remington is enough though.
I only mention 7mm-08...
Here in Colorado, it's legal to hunt with a suppressor.
A 30-caliber suppressor may add 8" to the overall length of the rifle.
Suddenly a round that gets the performance a 26" barrel in just 20" sounds very appealing.

1:9" twist 223 sure wouldn't be a bad place to start.
I had a 26" 1:9" twist Remington 700P in 223 a few years ago. Just didn't balance well and really felt like a pig.
Lately I've been shooting a Remington 700P LTR rebarreled in 22BR. 22" bbl, 1:8" twist Lilja.
75gr Hornady A-MAX...
My brand-new 642 did something similar.
Took it to the range and it wouldn't actually fire.
Confused the heck out of me. Ran it all the way around the cylinder about 3 or 4 times and it finally started hitting primers.
It's worked great ever since.

I tend to shoot mostly 9mm for fun / competition.
I really like my Springfield 1911 9mm for steel matches.
I initially tried a CZ-75B, then a Browning Hi-Power Practical in 9mm. Nothing particularly wrong with them.
Lately though, I find myself shooting a Glock 34 more than anything...
I'm already setup with a Dillon RL550B. I've also got a Dillon Super 1050, but I'm waiting to set it up in my new reloading room.
I spent about 4hrs last weekend loading up 1200rds of 9mm. I figure:
$.035 - once-fired brass
$.01 - roll-sizing
$.03 - primer
$.01 - powder
$.07 - 124gr...
