New twist on the gun for girlfriend/fiance/wife

First of all, thank you. Mostly good advice. I hadn't really considered the 9mm 1911 platform, but it's something to look into, though the pure single action trigger concerns me. I have explained the safety thing to her multiple time. In fact, the gun would be stored in a cabinet in the...

New twist on the gun for girlfriend/fiance/wife

I am an avid gun collector/shooter. My fiance is not such a big fan of guns, but after the Connnecticut school shooting, I was finally able to convince her to keep a gun at her place for protection (we live in separate cities right now due to work commitments). She has been to the range with me...

    Newbie here, looking for advice...

The three guns that keep popping up when people as the question you've asked are a .22, a .357 revolver, and a 9mm auto. I'm of the 9mm auto camp. My first gun was a Beretta 92. 9mm, 15 rounds in the clip. Great gun, still have it. Also have a .22 pistol, a few .357 revolvers, and a few...

.380 auto or .38 revolver thingie for ankle gun?

I hope my earlier post wasn't causing any confusion. The hammerless S&W titanium .38 is the 342ti. There was a typo in my earlier post when I said 344ti.

Any Mini 14 Experts out there?

For those of you recommending the AR-15, already got one. Colt Sporter. Love it. Want the Mini-14 for fun. Considering the AK-47 too, but as of right now, that will come later. Saw a SS Mini 14 factory folder go on Gunbroker for $761.00. I know, I should have been sitting by my computer...

.380 auto or .38 revolver thingie for ankle gun?

I'm a big fan of ankle carry. I've carried a PPK, Glock 27, S&W 344ti, S&W 60 .357, S&W 340sc and Kel-Tec in ankle holsters. My favorite is the S&W 340sc. Yes, I do carry it with .357's most of the time (not always). I don't really have a problem with any of the guns, though I find the Glock...

Any Mini 14 Experts out there?

I'm looking into a mini-14, stainless factory folder. Yes, I watched the A-Team a few too many times. Anyway, I'm narrowing down my search. My questions are: 1. One guy has a factory folder ranch for sale. Did they ever make a ranch version with the factory folder? 2. Some of the guns...

    Value of 686?

I recently paid 370 (plus shipping and transfer) for my 4 inch NIB factory wood gripped 686. Fedex lost it after I sent it to S&W for service (user error, nothing wrong with the gun, powder stuck under extractor), and I replaced it with almost exactly the same gun, slightly used, 686-2 model...

    S&W Scandium Revolvers

Had a 342ti. Got a crack on the piece that connects the cylinder to the frame (the yoke?), but was fixed by S&W free of charge. Traded it on a 340. Haven't put much ammo through it (less than 200 rounds, only about 10 of which were 357), but haven't had any problems. My favorite carry gun.

    Contemplating a new S&W

Actually, the 342 is a titanium gun (38 only), while the 340 is scandium (38 or 357). I had the 342, but traded for a 340. I had some trouble with the 342, but they were fixed by S&W free of charge. No problems with the 340. I'd get the 340 if I was you. Will you shoot a lot of 357's in it? No...

    My revolver collection is complete

You obviously haven't been bitten by a snake yet. I've been bitten by both the Python and the Anaconda (both with 6 inch barrels).

    "Tactical" Smith and Wesson Autos

What is so "Tactical" about these guns. Other than the writing on the side (which I'll admit does look cool) and the accessory rail attached to the frame, is there any difference between a regular 5906 and a Tactical 5906? If so, what are those differences and is it worth the price?

Which has been the most unpleasant handgun you have shot ?

S&W 340sc. Rough with .38's, painful with .357's. Not painful like getting whacked over the head, but it will leave your hand stinging after just a cylinder full. More painful than my 44Mag Anaconda, or my 50AE Desert Eagle. Oh yeah, it's the gun I carry most.... loaded with .357's.

IF you could only own ONE handgun...

While all are excellent choices, my choice would be the 9mm. My first gun was a Beretta. Still have it. Can't argue with 15+1 rounds of 9mm, a round which can be bought for 5 or 6 bucks a box of 50, doesn't have much recoil, and still packs a punch. Being a capacity freak, though, if 15 round...
