In my experience you can't go wrong with either as they're both excellent. Hate to seem wishy washy, but it's the truth. Go with whatever is in stock for you.
My last two ARs have BCM uppers. Extremely fast shipping and they're exactly what I wanted.
Take a look at the Larue PredatAR 7.62. If you want light and handy this is about the best way to go. I just bought one after months of research and decided on it because reliability was a necessary factor along with weight.
If you want a dead reliable rifle, look Larue and LMT although the...
I've seen all types of rifles come to the Appleseed line. Last month, someone in Gibsonburg, OH scored Rifleman with an old bolt action .22... and he was shooting left handed! He'd reach up and over to work the bolt with his left (trigger) hand and hit a really solid score.
While a mag-fed...

We're having 1000 weekend events coast to coast and border to border, so one can't be very far. 2000 next year... 4000 the following year... and so on...
A FOXNews reporter and his crew traveled to GA this past weekend to observe a Project Appleseed event. I haven't seen the TV report yet, but was told it aired at about 10:25 today. It is supposed to be in the news cycle every couple of hours, so keep an eye out!
The reporter wrote this...
FOX worked with Appleseed to choose the location. They only had two weekends they could come and shoot (cameras). The crew is in the SE and said they would prefer a shoot that is fairly well attended (as would Appleseed). There were four or five to choose from and GA made the most sense...
Michael Bane (of Shooting Gallery, Cowboys, DownRangeTV, etc) featured the NYT story on his weekly radio show:

I was most impressed with how he relied on his background in investigative journalism to look at why the NYT and other mainstream media...
Thanks for the tip, taliv. We'll certainly do that!
This response is not only being posted on various forums like THR, but also with all of the media contacts - firearms-related and not - so even if the NYT never publishes it, many people will see our rebuttal.
Anyone and everyone, please...
The Appleseed Project featured in the New York Times!
The Appleseed Project has definitely hit the main stream! We are very excited to see that the New York Times has published an in-depth, six page feature on our all-volunteer Marksmanship and Heritage program.
Unfortunately, there are...
Hey Frog, a very good overview of the basics is "The Art of the Rifle" by Jeff Cooper .
I'd also strongly urge for you and your son to attend an Appleseed event near you. PA has a very strong program. You will learn and hone the fundamentals necessary to shoot out to 500 yards...
Good stuff.
One of the reasons I attended an Appleseed Project marksmanship event was because it satisfies the CMP "participation" requirement and it was so cheap ($70/weekend) for top notch instruction.
I may have to pull out ye olde credit card again after seeing your pics.
Sometimes the hasty sling will induce some canting of the rifle, but first I'd want to look at your position to make sure it is rock solid and your support elbow is far enough under the rifle. The elbow needs to be directly under the rifle. If you were to drop a magazine out, it shouldn't hit...
I'm sold on the M1A being the best rifle for me. I would advise saving up and getting it since that's what you want. Otherwise you'll just get something more inexpensive now and then buy the M1A down the road anyway. :)
If you're truly on a budget and can't swing it, pick up a Garand from the...
After looking at everything out there, I went with the M1A for my battle rifles. Best rifle ever designed and it's held up to everything I've thrown at it in all conditions.
Every American needs a .30 caliber semi-auto. :) (But I choose the M1A for me.)
You might want to see if one "fits" you better than the other. I have chosen the M14 mainly due to magazine capacity. I shoot it well enough for my purposes - keeping all hits on a 500 yard target.
You also can't beat the flip up butt plate! Seriously. :) That design feature is a God send...
