Looks like pops is going to be a felon. It will cost him a lot of money, and most likely some time served, before the State of Alaska is done with him. The state takes game laws very seriously.
Only one per frame size? Here goes:
J-frame, 342 AirLite .38 Spl.
K-frame, Model 17, 6" .22LR
L-frame, Model 696, 3" .44 Spl.
N-frame, Model 27-2, 5", .357 mag.
I have no interest in an X-frame.
Best S&W in .45 ACP? I'd have to go with the 25-2 N-frame revolver. That said, I am also partial to a couple of 625 wheelguns as well as a 4566TSW, a 457, and a CS45.
Congrats. The Bren Ten, the AMT .44 Automag, and the Dan Wesson .445 Supermag are handguns of yesteryear that I have lusted for, but haven't been able to justify. Reviews and videos like yours may be as close as I ever get. Thank you for sharing.
I came across a 3-1/2" M-27-2 at a gunshow a few of years ago. It looked far worse than yours. But, the price was attractive, so it came home with me. My ugliest S&W by far. It actually gets used much more than the prettier ones. I agree that magna grips look better than target grips on the...
I happen to like the Colt Trooper MkIIIs. I have a 4" and an 8" in .22LR as well as matching .357s. There were some Troopers made in .22 mag. I haven't checked, but, there may possible to ream the existing cylinder. I am sure some resident gunsmiths will weigh in. But, if it were me, I'd...
I have an Interarms Mark-X Whitworth .458 that I used for many years while in Alaska. The action was Yugoslavian made and is widely regarded as high quality. The Whitworth version is an upgrade to the standard Mark-X version and commands a somewhat higher price.
Hummer70,
Thank you for sharing.
Although pistol bullet design and manufacturing this century has improved the reliability of expansion and weight retention; a relatively hard cast, large meplat, semi-wadcutter bullet at moderate velocity has over a century of documented effectiveness...
When I lived in Alaska my choice was a Taurus Raging Bull .454 Casull in the remote areas with known bear concentrations. In the burbs of Anchorage a 4" S&W 629 .44 mag. normally got the not when kicking around. I would be inclined to go with a .44 mag over the Colt 1917.
