I use a Havalon to put up fur and for caping out deer. For everything else I use a Case. I really prefer carbon steel but the interchangeable scalpel blades on the Havalon are good for precision.
Why wouldn't you buy Colt and the history of fine firearms that goes with the name. I just hope it doesn't wind up in the hands of some conglomerate like Remington.
I usually carry a Colt Commander or gov't model. I've started carrying my Glock 29 more in the summer because I'm not worried about sweat or moisture on it and I've always got my Colt Jr. in my pocket.
I love guns I've got model 12&37 Winchesters, A5 Brownings, several old Colts (my favorites), just to name a few but they share room in the safe with M4s and Glocks. I love walnut and blued steel the most but I like the new stuff too.
Para Ordnance is very accurate and one of the better values in the GI Expert. If money is no object Wilson Combat. S&W, Kimber, and Ruger are also good. Colts are my favorite but mine are all older.
I like the 10mm I shoot it a lot and I'm very comfortable with it. I load 180gr. Hornady xtps for edc. I've thought about trying some of the frangible loads to combat the over penetration issue but I don't know if I trust them through heavy clothing and such. It's hard to find the perfect load...
I have the Ruger American compact in .308 and I am very pleased. It shoots sub MOA groups and I have had no issues with the stock or feeding. It's not as pretty as my 700 BDL or Belgian BAR but that doesn't make it a bad gun. I'm proud to have it.
